The elephant in the room is very much decarbonisation. In an environment where cost to serve is under more and more pressure, as suppliers look to offset inflationary costs and minimise what they have to pass on to customers, decarbonising logistics is still seen by as a 'nice to focus on' rather than a 'need to focus on'. Many are still living in hope of the magic solution that will make this elephant vanish or are just hoping that it will go away. But this elephant needs tackling and will require many bites before it is gone. The quicker we start to address and start to invest in decarbonisation the easier each bite will be for customers and ultimately consumers to swallow. Attending the decarbonising logistics event on 6th Nov would be an excellent first bite to make. Link is in article below.

Electric Truck Charging: How Many Charging Stations Does Europe Need? #Decarbonization of road freight is a key policy objective in the European Union (EU). As such, the transport sector finds itself under mounting pressure to transition towards more sustainable practices. Within this sector, the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), such as battery electric trucks (BETs), represents a major step toward achieving cleaner and more efficient logistics operations. However, the transition to electric trucking faces significant infrastructure gaps. What is being done to accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) across Europe? https://lnkd.in/ebG5yRkX

Fantastic news today that #bppulse has acquired the freehold for one of the largest truck stops in Europe – Ashford International Truckstop in Kent, UK! 🚛 The 21-acre site is located close to the UK’s busiest ferry port at Dover and the Eurotunnel, which 3.5 million heavy goods vehicles (HGV) drivers use to cross the Channel every year. 🔋As part of our drive to create a European network of electric truck charging infrastructure, bp pulse plans to install a range of charging options suitable for on-the-go and overnight trucks, including state-of-the-art megawatt chargers, the first of which is expected to be installed from 2026. bp pulse will lease back the site to Ashford International Truckstop Ltd to operate the existing site facilities and secure parking. 🔗Once the EV chargers are installed on the acquired site, bp pulse is set to establish a link between the UK and its German truck charging corridor which already has 21 Aral pulse EV truck stops in operation. As fleets look to decarbonise by going electric, operators will need the right charging in the right locations. Acquiring this site at Ashford from #GSEGroup, will enable us to support fleet operators in their transition to electric trucks. Read more https://lnkd.in/gMTRfGG5

First tests of electric long-haul transports underway within E-Charge! After preparations, technological development, and research, DB Schenker and Scania Group are now starting the demonstration of a fully electric heavy truck in regular traffic between Jönköping and Södertälje. This is the first logistics flow within the E-Charge project, where electrified long-distance truck transports will be showcased. "For DB Schenker, the purpose is to test and gain experience with fully electric heavy vehicles in long-distance traffic. Electrification of heavy vehicles plays a crucial role in our transition to carbon-neutral transportation, and since heavy traffic accounts for the largest emissions for us, it is incredibly important," says Anna Hagberg, Head of Network & Linehaul at DB Schenker and continues: "It will be incredibly exciting and interesting to learn from this pilot project. In addition to making a significant CO2 saving, it will be exciting to see how the driver's everyday life changes," concludes Anna Hagberg. Also for Scania, reducing emissions from long-distance transports is crucial, and they are delighted with the development. "The vehicle is Scania's first long-haul battery-electric vehicle with this capacity. I am very pleased that we are now able to start testing with our first customers," says David Gotthardsson, Concept Leader at Scania Pilot Partner. "The E-Charge project gives us a unique opportunity to collaborate with other stakeholders, to test and learn together. Together with DB Schenker, we are now testing solutions in real operations," says Tony Sandberg, Vice President Scania Pilot Partner. 💡🚛 🔋 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/d9YJQXEp E-Charge brings together participants from vehicle manufacturers, fuel companies, research, and electric grid companies to collaboratively drive the electrification of heavy, long-haul truck transportation. In a system demonstration, various logistics flows will be electrified, with several of them utilizing megawatt charging (MCS). This technology will enable driving for 4.5 hours, charging for 45 minutes, and then driving for another 4.5 hours. Electric HGVs are to be trialled across the UK in a new programme to help freight operators decarbonise their fleet. The trial is led by The Centre for Sustainable Road Freight. "The urgency of the climate crisis is driving adoption of electric heavy goods vehicles at a rate that few in the industry would have expected five years ago. Operators are purchasing and running these vehicles today in fleets of all sizes. But there’s still a long way to go to understand how whole fleets and industries can transition to electric heavy goods vehicles in a technically feasible way." Nice move for BP
BP Pulse acquires one of Europe’s largest truck stops and unveils plans to help HGVs electrify BP Pulse, bp’s electric vehicle charging brand, has acquired the freehold of one of the largest truck stops in Europe, Ashford International Truckstop in Kent as part of its strategic drive to create a Europe-wide network of electric truck (EV) charging infrastructure. Strategically located off Junction 10 and 10a of the M20, Ashford International Truckstop is close to Dover, the UK’s busiest ferry port, and LeShuttle Freight via the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone. Approximately 3.5 million Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) travel across the channel via the port of Dover and Eurotunnel each year. The acquisition presents bp with the opportunity to help meet the comprehensive needs of UK and European HGV operators transitioning to EVs. The site has the capacity to host approximately 20 mega-watt chargers (MCS), 10 x 400kW and 125 x 100 kW chargers. This capacity is subject to power connection availability and the pace of electrification in the UK and European road freight sector. It could enable bp pulse to install a range of charging options suitable for both on-the-go and overnight HGVs. The first mega-watt chargers are expected to be in place from 2026. A mega-watt charger has the potential to fully charge an HGV in up to 45 minutes, enabling an onward range of ~310 miles (500km) in a single charge, depending on EV model, battery, the weather and driving conditions.
