Interesting article on the status of Corporate VC in South Africa by Global Corporate Venturing 👏 At simple.Capital, we’re seeing incredible momentum in the Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) space in South Africa. Many corporates are eager to get involved but often face challenges with structures and positioning. Corporates need to ask themselves why they are considering a CVC: 1. Financial return 2. Access to research, learning, and innovation 3. Future-proofing your business Each objective requires a different tailored approach to strategy, mandate creation, and structural setup. 🚀 Also, an awesome shoutout and mention in the article to Farrukh Hussain and Barati Mahloele who are doing some awesome work in this space! #CVC #CorporateVenturing #Innovation #Startup

Decoding Angel Investment ✍🏾: Valuation In angel investment, valuation refers to the estimated worth of a startup before receiving investment from an angel investor. It's crucial for several reasons: 👉🏾 Determines investment amount: The valuation dictates how much equity an angel investor receives in exchange for their investment. 👉🏾 Sets expectations: Both the investor and entrepreneur gain an understanding of the company's perceived value at that specific stage. 👉🏾 Impacts future fundraising: A higher valuation can potentially make the company more attractive to future investors seeking higher returns. #TanzaniaAngels #SeedCapital #Capital #SerengetiAngels #investinTanzania #InvestinAfrica #AfricanStartups #Startups #Africa #EntrepreneurshipAfrica #angelinvesting #startupcommunity

Lazard partners with Elaia to launch a new fund. Private investment bank #Lazard is teaming up with French early-stage #VC #Elaia to launch a European growth fund, poised to back deeptech startups and scaleups across the continent. Lazard and Elaia are joining forces to create Lazard Elaia Capital, with Lazard owning 75% and Elaia 25%. This strategic alliance aims to raise a growth fund of up to €1 billion, making it one of France's largest venture investment vehicles for growth. The fund will target investments ranging between €30-40 million, catering to the needs of European startups at various stages of growth. Xavier Lazarus, managing partner at Elaia, will lead the newly-hired team of 10 to manage the growth fund. In a world where liquidity is tight and capital scarce, how do #startups thrive? Well, Marie Nielsen from Antler East Africa sheds light on this pressing challenge for #African tech founders and her advice resonates far beyond the continent. Her message is clear, profitability isn’t just a buzzword, it is the cornerstone of survival for any business. #Startups with strong unit economics and a clear path to profitability attract not only #investors but loyal customers, who are the most reliable source of capital. Key strategies recommended: - Tap into customer revenue as it is cost-effective and builds trust. - Explore alternative funding sources like grants. - Use instruments like #SAFEs for quick access to smaller investments. - Engage #investors through warm introductions and face-to-face meetings as relationships matter. - Look beyond borders as international investors can open doors to much-needed funding. This is a rallying call to #founders/#entrepreneurs to embrace resilience and resourcefulness. Success in a low-liquidity market isn’t just about weathering the storm, it is about learning to dance in the rain. All the best as you build the future! #venturecapital #innovation #angelinvesting More on this in the article:
