What lies ahead: state of play for global VC Following a tough period with slashed valuations and fundraising hurdles, is the market showing signs of recovery? Will companies raise down rounds to avoid shutting down or are they not there yet? Has the pendulum swung too far towards the bigger managers with track records, and how can small and emerging GPs access capital in this environment? https://lnkd.in/gJFy8ME8

We don’t just help new investors enter private markets. We also make life easier for existing allocators👇 Some of our investors have already established themselves as private market experts. They’re used to choosing investments for their clients and don’t want to give that up. For example, we work with one asset manager who launched a cross-over technology fund, a fund of 70% public and 30% private tech companies. The execution of the publicly traded stocks was fairly straight-forward, for the private ones is where we came in. Unlike this asset manager, we don’t form an active opinion which of the private market companies exactly will perform the strongest. However, we were able to offer something extremely valuable they didn’t have: Superior, fast and more cost-effective access to private tech companies via secondaries. That way, our platform allows them to quickly deploy new money from the portfolio into new deals, and tactically rebalance their portfolio. The bottom line: access deals are good for everyone — even for active managers. Thoughts? Let me know in the comments👇 PS.: Find more insights about private tech companies through secondaries in our weekly newsletter. https://lnkd.in/eBE5GxAK #wealthmanagement #investing #privatemarkets

🇪🇺Europe is significantly underfunded, and this must change to maintain the standard of living we currently enjoy. 💜 With Volt Europa #Volt, in the European Parliament, I have high hopes for the future. We need to... 🇪🇺Unified European Market: Simplify business dynamics by breaking down national silos, allowing startups to scale across Europe more easily. Currently, if a startup secures contracts in one EU country, it doesn’t benefit them in other countries. Breaking down these barriers would simplify the engagement process, enabling deep tech companies to scale more quickly and generate returns. Additionally, if funding agencies moved away from regionally focused strategies and venture capital agreements, allowing innovation to grow across Europe, the return on investment would be substantial. Funding agencies should adopt Europe-wide strategies instead of regionally focused ones to enhance ROI. 🏦Broaden Investment Opportunities: Expand the types of funds that can invest in startups, such as allowing pension funds to invest in venture capital, as done in the U.S., to boost financing for innovation. Some European countries prohibit pension funds from investing in venture capital. In the U.S., pension funds can invest up to 10% of their capital. 📝Reduce Bureaucratic Friction: Minimize administrative hurdles in the commercialization process, such as simplifying technology transfer and exit strategies, and reducing government interference. This will help new companies scale faster.

😳 I am impressed how clear Christine Lagarde answered my questions around VC funding in the EU! “Maybe national leaders should go and ask their innovators!” “They need the money!” “We need to look under the hood of venture capital to understand what’s missing and address that.” “I think a lot is at stake so I am stepping a little bit out of line - I shouldn’t say that but I believe it very strongly.”

We couldn’t agree more with Christine Lagarde’s perspective on the crucial role of #venturecapital in driving #innovation across Europe. She raises an important question: “Maybe national leaders should go and ask their innovators?” 🤔 It's about time we have more exchange between policymakers, innovators, and investors! What's more, it’s essential for innovators to have access to new capital at every stage of their journey. “Innovators need fresh capital every step of the way and if they can’t secure that fresh capital locally.” Without local #funding, talented innovators may be forced to take their groundbreaking ideas elsewhere. It’s time to “look under the hood of venture capital” and see what’s missing in the #VC landscape to ensure our talent thrives right here in Europe! #Investment #Innovation Damian Boeselager

Tag der Deutschen Einheit 🇩🇪 Maybe it is time to do the next step? A European Union 🇪🇺 for innovators. Not competition among EU members for funds or local tax advantages, but as a unit to keep global competitiveness. The United Nations of Europe for innovation and mutual economic benefits. At least for innovation, funding and venture capital is needed on a European level and on much higher levels. Not to start up only, but to scale up properly on a global level, too.

Wise thoughts by Christine Lagarde. One of the important steps where the political class have work to do in Europe is to see beyond the borders (and dumb national interest) for capital. We need the CMU now if we shall be able to be competitive.

The critical issue that many analysts overlook is that most middle class Americans own stocks and most Europeans do not, thanks to the private, and precarious, welfare state in the US. Whether their exit comes in dollars or euros, the European entrepreneurs and early investors - rich people and institutions who have benefited from decades of world-class research funded by European citizens - get paid. Who else wins? Nurses in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, police officers on Staten Island NY, Firefighters in Oxnard, California, librarians in Centennial, Colorado, professors in Cambridge, Massachusetts, bus drivers in Lawrence, Kansas… USA. Typical American middle-class and white-collar employees’ pensions come from the stocks and bonds markets in the form of IRAs, the most common US pension plan. When we spend billions of euros in EU VC-styled technology funding program like #horizoneurope at least 50% of these billions are lost to risk - which is necessary for innovation, true. However, the everyday European gains nothing. Sean Jones For a More Perfect Union
