Tech will become one of the key differentiators in hospitality - if it isn’t already. Investment will be crucial. Those operators that are upping tech spend and deploying tech intelligently are much more likely to come out ahead - which will just widen the gap between winners and losers in this increasingly asymmetric market. And as our friends at Toast pointed out in their Atlantic Club presentation, the two areas that can benefit most are guest experience and employee experience. “Innovate or die” ran the Times headline The punchy quote was attributed to one Jane O'Riordan – former strategy director for Nando's UK & IRE’s, now chair of multiple hospitality brands, a Peach Icon (2022) and now leading the Innovation working Group for the government’s Hospitality Sector Council. Jane’s thesis is that hospitality has to embrace new technology as part of the solution to the challenges the sector faces. “We’ve got to get better at it” she commented. Our recent Atlantic Club to Nashville our partners at Toast shared 6 predictions for tech innovation and spending priorities for 2024. From AI forecasting for accurate scheduling and optimising team deployment to driving productivity/revenue per employee and elevating the guest experience are all in play. Here’s the 6 spending trends in summary: 1. 66% of brands are increasing tech spend 2. Productivity, efficiency and guest experience are the main priorities 3. More spend directed to guest and employee experience 4. Ease and convenience solutions wins the day – for guests and employees 5. Guest marketing – websites, SMS, email, loyalty all key drivers 6.
