Developing hardware requirements is extremely challenging, especially at the early stage. Good requirements drive a solution toward accomplishing the mission. Bad requirements are made up in the room between engineers and have no connection to first principles. Most important, good requirements are flexible in priority - not everything can be number one - and adapt to the realities of the changing mission as design progresses. I am curious how you all come up with reqs for your projects, and what challenges you run into when drafting requirements!

When tasked with suggesting an engineering plan* for any project, many engineers reply with "we can't do this, we don't have capacity". 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫. The right way to do it is to say, "this is the ask, this is how we'd solve it and how much engineering effort we think it requires". If you get buy-in from business/leadership, then they might help you get the headcount you need. You 𝘸𝘰𝘯'𝘵 get the headcount you need if you can't justify why you need said headcount. And you can't justify the headcount unless you don't first break down the problem into tasks and estimate those. So that's where you need to start. - Can you think of other ways to use this "framework"? * Agreed upon System Design, and missing components broken into tasks with rough estimates to build and integrating them..
