Don't give up on customers who look lost or churned. At PropelAuth, we've been (pleasantly) surprised by how often a customer resurfaces after going dormant for months. Generally, the dormancy is due to outside factors taking over. A startup needs time to consider a pivot. The SMB has decided to push this project back a quarter or two. Someone critical in the decision making process is out on leave. The 3 things we've found that help ensure we maintain a relationship with these customers while they work things out on their end are: 1. Making sure their first experience is good enough to remember. Smooth onboarding and docs go a long way here, even if they don't finish the process. 2. Keeping in touch. We both send product updates to our entire user base, and personal messages to users when we've released a feature they've requested - even if they haven't been active in the product for some time. 3. Existing outside of our product - aka, posting on social media. This helps us reach users who don't necessarily open every product update email they receive. As a Head of Product in SaaS, few moments feel as rewarding as when your product truly resonates with users. Recently, I was speaking with a customer who was using a competitor's solution. I asked them to imagine I was a genie and to share their 'wish list' of features they'd love in a tool like Proshort. They eagerly shared their ideas, listing out feature after feature. After about five minutes, they paused, almost out of breath. 🎉 Reflecting on an unforgettable journey at ServiceTrade 🚀 With a bittersweet mix of nostalgia and anticipation, I'm bidding adieu to my time at ServiceTrade. In just two years, we've accomplished milestones that have undeniably left a mark on the company. 1️⃣ We dove headfirst into a product positioning overhaul, a labor of love close to my heart as a sales rep turned #productmarketer turned CMO. Introducing the first messaging framework, absorbing the positioning of two acquisitions, and getting the full company buy-in about ServiceTrade's unique and comparable differentiators improved seller confidence and led to an uptick in our competitive win rates year over year. 2️⃣ Revamping our brand and website was a Herculean effort. The payoff? Substantial improvements in organic traffic, 46%+ improvement in bounce rates, and 70%+ surge in inbound demo requests year-on-year (with a particularly noteworthy 55% spike from Q4 '23 to Q1 '24). Add in some fantastic growth in SERP due to building the site right and not taking any AI-content-generated shortcuts, and I'd say it's been a success. Special thanks to Takeoff Web Design Agency for guiding us through the process. 3️⃣ Let's not forget the transformative journey of our sales process, led by Revops and Business Analytics that's reshaping the operating cadence and driving accountability. I leave that in Eric Schieck's capable hands to make it rain. 4️⃣ So much pride lies in our small but tenacious #demandgen team, who held their ground against bigger budgets and formidable competitors like ServiceTitan and BuildOps. 5️⃣ My time at ServiceTrade came to a crescendo last week, witnessing a remarkable 70%+ year-on-year growth in attendance at our marquee event "The Digital Wrap Conference" #DWC24. The team cranked out over 30 hours of new content that attendees rated 4.5/5 and the high has been exhilarating. Our relentless focus on attracting fresh faces and diversifying attendee roles with relevant content paid dividends in customer goodwill and pipeline. None of these triumphs would have been conceivable without the tireless effort, and enduring support of the incredible team members and customers of ServiceTrade.
