Will you be a Casanova, a rouge, a scoundrel? As a bloke, I have built up some emotional barriers over the years to avoid sharing how I am feeling. I would far rather talk sport or music and avoid the other stuff. I am learning that it can help to share a bit more. Last Movember I really found more people willing to have conversations because of the Movember tache. I recorded this video last year and want to share again to encourage more people to get involved. Movember is not just for men though. Men's health affects all the women and children in mens' lives. Not being able to grow a tache is no excuse. I have ordered some false moustaches and will send them to anyone who wants to get involved. Message me your details. Sir Chris Hoy has just announced his prostrate cancer is terminal. I am no expert but I understand early testing is key. Last year in Movember I went for a psa test as over 50s is a higher risk group. I will share more about that during Movember, but the test is free and really quick so contact your GP if you are worried. I am not doing this for sponsorship- it's about awareness. I plan to do a few Movember related posts in coming weeks. It's about being honest with yourself and others. Don't suffer in silence. Where’s the Noise for Movember? The Wake-Up Call for Men's Health It’s Movember – the one month where we rally to raise awareness for men’s health. But where are the events, the articles, the discussions reminding us of this critical cause? The 2024 theme is : "Men are Dying Too Young." Fact. So why aren't we doing something about that? Where's the energy, the advocacy? Why aren’t we hearing about it, talking about it, SHOUTING about it? Movember approaches the hard topic of men's health through bringing people together with humour, conversation, and, yes, the classic dodgy moustache! My own son is proudly sporting one this month, but without our action and support, what impact does it have? Yesterday, I was in a zoom session with 22 professionals, most of them young men with seriously impressive beards. I held up my Movember mug (see selfie below), using it to illustrate the power of influence and persuasion to advocate for others. Shockingly, only one person in the group had heard of Movember! 😮 Movember’s goal is to help men live longer, happier, healthier lives – to encourage early check-ups, to open up tough conversations, and ultimately, to save lives. So, let’s ask ourselves: What’s one thing we can do today/this week/this month to support the men in our lives? - Is there a male friend or family member we could encourage to call the doctor (because they've been procrastinating about doing it)? - Is there a male colleague who's been a little quiet lately we could check in on? - Maybe we could spread the word – sharing a post, or having a conversation about why Movember matters. We’ve still got time this month people. Let’s make sure it counts. I decided not only to participate in this #pinkmovember #bindx #healthchallenge but also to share it publicly. It is important to raise more awareness to cancer prevention & screenings and to mental health issues. 🧔 At Bind-X now it is even funnier as the men grow their mustash and by the end of #movember our well known team members look like a different person. (November+Mustash=Movember) 👩⚕️ But it is also very serious, as everyone is invited to fulfill at least 6 challenges (either mental health or physical health challenges). While completing the challenges I do something for my health, it is just as simply. 🎯 I do not know, how many or exactly which challenges I will be able to complete by the end of November. But it will be a month where I do more for my health. For example: * 📲 I reduce screen time on my phone * 🦾 I do more workout * 💗 I do something nice for someone who needs my help or will be more patient with people around me * 🌳 I spend more time in nature and less in the room - anyone up for a walk&talk? * 🚶♀️ I go more steps I usually go * 🍫 I eat no chocolate for a week - this might be the toughest one... ⁉️ Do you participate on cancer screenings regularly?
