Laws protecting children from exploitation in the influencer industry are being enacted to ensure kids receive a share of the profits from brand deals. Davis+Gilbert Advertising + Marketing partner Allison Fitzpatrick was quoted multiple times in this Axios article, Classic Hollywood Laws Inspire Shields for Kids in Multibillion Influencer Industry, which focuses on how the law is evolving to protect child influencers. Allison draws immediate attention to state laws in Illinois and Minnesota that allow children to sue parents who didn’t save money for them. Many other states have also introduced laws protecting child influencers, tracking with federal children protection bills that have received bipartisan support. Parenting influencers speak out as new law designed to protect kids featured on social media goes into effect Hmmm ... not sure about the title ... this law seems to support the use of children in adult social media posts ... as long as they are compensated. "it requires that children age 16 and under be compensated if, within a 30-day period, they are in at least 30% of a video or online content for which the adult, whether a parent or caregiver, is being paid. The person making the videos in which the child appears is responsible for setting aside gross earnings in a trust account for the child to receive at age 18."
