PBPC is engaged in global climate discussions at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Executive Director James Glueck and Senior Director of Sustainability Jamaica Gayle are representing PBPC in key conversations on climate policy and agriculture. On Saturday, James joined a panel hosted by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture to discuss how a circular bioeconomy can reduce waste, create jobs, and support sustainable development. Yesterday, Jamaica participated in a UNFCCC side event, co-organized by PBPC, on building a circular economy and adopting innovative, collaborative approaches for achieving sustainable climate goals. The groundwork laid at COP29 paves the way for further dialogue and development at COP30, where PBPC will continue driving critical conversations toward lasting policies impacting the bioeconomy. #COP29

COP29 Insight: Day 9 Highlights  The discussions at COP29 in Baku today turned toward the critical nexus of Food, Water, and Agriculture—a thematic focus that touches the heart of global climate resilience. From groundbreaking initiatives to urgent calls for action, here are the moments that stood out:  🔹 Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers   This flagship program was unveiled to empower farmers with climate-resilient techniques and address the growing challenge of food security. It reinforces the commitment to integrate sustainability into global agricultural practices.  🔹 Tackling Methane from Organic Waste   A high-level meeting focused on reducing methane emissions, leading to the adoption of the Methane Reduction Declaration. This move reflects the global push to mitigate powerful greenhouse gases while transitioning to sustainable waste management.  🔹 Voices for Change   Leaders like John Kerry (U.S. Climate Envoy) and Xie Zhenhua (China’s Special Envoy) emphasized the importance of collective action, particularly in reducing agricultural emissions. Their dialogue showcased the importance of North-South cooperation in achieving global climate targets.  🔹 Agnes Kalibata on Equity   UN Food Systems Envoy Agnes Kalibata captured the essence of the day, stating:   "Agriculture is the bridge between livelihoods and climate action. We must innovate to nourish both people and the planet."*  🔹 Building Resilience   Water management emerged as a key agenda item, with stakeholders discussing innovative solutions to combat water scarcity while ensuring agricultural productivity.  Day 9 reminded us that addressing climate change requires a unified effort across sectors, particularly those as intertwined with daily life as food and water.
