I love my job as the marine engine sales person for Cummins Inc. in Alaska and part of the PNW. As a born & raised Alaska boy, I also love commercial fishing for wild, sustainable seafood in the oceans of Alaska as I’ve done every year since the summer of 1989….salmon, crab, herring & cod. Is it possible to do both, they ask?! Well….this is where my two worlds mesh. To be effective in any sales role, you need passion and a solid grasp on the industry you’re selling into. I firmly believe there is no greater way to gain knowledge & understanding of the industry I sell into, than to physically invest and become a Cummins customer and fisherman in that exact industry. I have the passion, so every summer, I take a 3 week working vacation from Cummins to get some fresh ocean air, reset my mind and soul and go chase wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon up in Bristol Bay, Alaska on my commercial fishing boat, the F/V Twin Tuition…which is Powered by Cummins & Onan! I flip the script and I become a Cummins end user/customer for the summer. I want to put myself in my customer’s shoes, be actively engaged and a be part of the industry where I sell Cummins marine engines. When a marine customer calls me for help: 1.). I want to be responsive 2.). I want to be credible 3.). I want to be knowledgeable 4.). I want to be relatable 5.). I want to be trustworthy Here’s to 3 weeks aboard the Twin Tuition chasing wild, sustainable, Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon…..the days are long, the work is hard, the sleep is not plentiful, the showers are few & far between, but the pb&j sandwiches and Mac & Cheese taste like filet minion and King Crab because we’re so hungry! #commercialfishing #cummins #sales

I just completed Red Bull's On-Premise Sales on Forage. In the simulation I: • Completed a job simulation focused on On-Premise Sales activities at Red Bull •Used Excel to visualize which on-premise clients are performing best and worst. •Communicated observations to Red Bull team members about why certain clients are performing better than others. •Utilized active listening and social proof to overcome a client’s objections resulting in them more prominently featuring Red Bull in their bar. 🐟 In the sea of sales, much like in fishing, the key to success lies in the bait you use and the patience you exhibit. Both activities require a deep understanding of the target, be it fish or customers, and the tactics to reel them in. In fishing, we choose the perfect lure, cast our line in promising waters, and wait for the fish to bite. In sales, we craft compelling pitches, position our products in the market, and patiently nurture leads until they convert. The satisfaction of a successful catch is paralleled by closing a deal. And just as a fisherman might release a small catch back into the ocean, a savvy salesperson knows when to let a low-value lead go in favor of bigger prospects. So, as you navigate the waters of sales, remember to cast your line with precision, choose your bait wisely, and be patient. The right catch will come, and when it does, it’ll be worth the wait. #SalesStrategy #CustomerEngagement #FishingForSuccess

Ever thought about how bass fishing parallels crafting the perfect sales pitch? 🐟 Here are some surprising lessons from the world of fishing that can transform your approach to sales: 1. Preparation is Key 🎣 Just like anglers meticulously prepare their gear and study the waters, a winning sales pitch requires thorough preparation. Understand your product inside and out, know your target audience, and tailor your message to address their specific needs. 2. Know Your Environment 🌊 Successful fishermen understand the habits of bass and the conditions that affect their behavior. Similarly, effective salespeople need to grasp market trends, customer pain points, and the competitive landscape. This knowledge allows you to position your offering compellingly. 3. Use the Right Bait 🪱 In fishing, the right lure makes all the difference. In sales, your "bait" is your value proposition. Highlight the unique benefits and solutions your product offers. Make it irresistible! 4. Patience and Persistence ⏳ Fishing often involves long waits and multiple attempts. In sales, persistence is crucial. Follow up consistently and build relationships over time. Not every prospect will bite on the first attempt. 5. Adaptability is Crucial ⚓ Conditions on the water can change rapidly, and so can the business environment. Be ready to pivot your pitch based on feedback, new information, or changing market conditions. Flexibility can lead to unexpected opportunities. 6. Observe and Learn 👀 Anglers continuously observe the water and learn from each fishing trip. Sales professionals should do the same—listen to your prospects, gather feedback, and refine your pitch based on what you learn. 7. Timing Matters 🕒 In fishing, timing can be everything. The same holds true for sales. Know the best time to reach out to your prospects, understand their buying cycles, and time your pitch for maximum impact. Just like in bass fishing, success in sales comes from a blend of preparation, knowledge, the right tools, patience, adaptability, and timing. So, next time you're crafting a sales pitch, channel your inner angler and watch your results soar! 🎣🚀 #Sales #SalesStrategy #BusinessLessons #BassFishing #SalesTips #CustomerEngagement #ProfessionalDevelopment

⛏ Striking Gold | The Klondike Gold Rush ⛏ On this day in 1896, while salmon fishing near the Klondike River, George Carmack made a discovery that would ignite the last great gold rush in the American West. Spotting gold nuggets in the creek bed, Carmack's chance find led to a frenzy of prospectors seeking their fortunes in the Yukon Territory. We can draw valuable lessons from Carmack's story: 1️⃣ #Exploration & #Opportunity: Carmack ventured into uncharted territory, driven by a desire to find new opportunities. We must constantly explore new #methodologies and #technologies to uncover #opportunities that can lead our #teams to #success. 2️⃣ #Collaboration & Shared #Knowledge: Carmack didn’t make the #discovery alone. He was guided by tips from other prospectors and worked closely with his Native American companions. Similarly, #collaboration within our teams and across departments fosters #innovation and enhances our collective #success. 3️⃣ #Resilience & #Adaptability: Before striking gold, Carmack faced many #challenges and #setbacks. His #resilience and willingness to #adapt led him to his remarkable discovery. We must embrace a #growthmindset, #learning from #failures and continuously adapting to meet the #evolving needs of our sales teams. As we reflect on the Klondike Gold Rush, let’s remember that great discoveries and #success come from a combination of #exploration, #collaboration, and #resilience. In the dynamic world of sales, these principles are just as valuable as ever.
