We’ve entered the ‘for you’ era. Social media algorithms show you more of the content you engage with. If horror films aren’t your thing, Netflix won’t recommend them. Amazon suggests products based on your past purchases. The same principle applies to restaurants—why promote steak to a vegan? As algorithmic personalization becomes the norm, guests now expect tailored communication from restaurants. One-size-fits-one is no longer just a trend; it’s becoming the standard. When guests order directly through a restaurant’s digital channels—whether it’s a website, app, or kiosk—they provide valuable first-party data, including their name, email, phone number, and payment details. This data, coupled with purchase history and preferences, is a goldmine for motivating repeat orders, fueling personalized marketing campaigns (with consent), and building long-term loyalty. However, despite these benefits, only 18% of restaurant transactions are digital, according to Circana. This means most restaurants are missing out on the opportunity to truly understand their guests and create experiences that keep them coming back.
