I am very proud of this mahi with the XRB, the financial reporting structure is entrenched in the 12 month performance measures but what of those entities that are driven by design and obligation for intergenerational benefit beyond a financial year, beyond the profits and value creation harvested in the year? Many organisations sow the seeds of benefit for future generations yet our structures do not provide a mechanism to tell the story - are the years of investment not realised until ‘harvest’? A great tohu for Aotearoa and will surely lead the way in providing another pathway to tell your stories on what is most important.
Indigenous values are, by-and-large, excluded from existing financial and non-financial reporting frameworks. To address this gap, New Zealand’s reporting standard setter, the External Reporting Board, has developed a non-financial reporting framework with a focus on the perspectives and needs of Māori reporting entities so they can demonstrate and authentically tell their story of value and impact beyond monetary perspectives.
