I feel insanely lucky that I got to go to the Industrial Marketing Summit last week. Two thoughts: ⚙️This. Community. Rules. People talk about “company culture” — but something I noticed last week was the culture of this community, of industrial marketers, is second to none. There are so many smart voices ushering in a new wave of marketing — moving beyond sales enablement into a true revenue generation stream. And no one’s competing against each other. It’s very much a culture of, “Oh, you’re experiencing that challenge, too? Here’s how I’ve overcome it. Let me help you.” ⚙️ So many incredible women!! From the women on the stage to the women behind the event. And each of them is eager to reach a hand down, up or across to help another woman in the community. It was truly invigorating to be a part of. --- What a fun event. I walked into this week feeling like I could kick down a door. And honestly the least of it was that I took the stage as a conference speaker for the first time. (Aren – I’m so proud of us!) Thank you to ALL involved (Gorilla 76, TREW Marketing, CADENAS PARTsolutions). We all knows she's brilliant. But if you told me someone from an agency would lean into #outbound, I'm not sure I would have believed it. In this environment, it's important to celebrate winners. Sometimes the Devil is in the Details...or the Prada 😉👠👠🥂 To be frank, reading the yearly studies and their stats on the progress of C-Suite/VP Level Women's leadership in High Tech can be depressing. Especially as a Global Executive Leadership coach, I can count on one hand the C-Suite women I've coached in my 22 years. And very rarely do I see key power positions like CTO/CIO, CRO, COO, or CEO being held by women. 😖 We always see low numbers. And I yearly hear the recruiting wail "There are no R&D/technical women out there for VP/Exec positions". BUILDING YOUR PERSONAL/LEADERSHIP BRAND is critical, not only for your benefit but so that other people can see what is out there and can be done! I continue to grow as a professional through your educational events, and it's always a pleasure to grow my network of empowered, empowering women! 🙌 This morning, I had the privilege of attending Columbus Together Digital's From Insight to Impact panel discussion at COhatch. Here are my key takeaways: 👉 For digital marketers like myself, diving into the meaning behind analytics can prove challenging as algorithms change and as the culture around spending/donating online sways. Before jumping to conclusions based on data, evaluate your assumptions. Numbers trending down may not indicate that your organization is poorly managing their social media pages or website. 👉 When a change is needed in marketing strategy, it can be difficult to effectively persuade senior leadership. Remember that marketing and storytelling go hand-in-hand. Lead decision makers through your thought process and the data to encourage buy-in and positive change. 👉 Protected characteristics should not be gathered without a clear purpose. Ethically encourage minority and marginalized groups to share their perspective with your organization to promote real social change. 👉 When analyzing data, look honestly not only at what was done and its results but also at how well it was executed.
