“The best teams have this secret weapon…” “Teams with a mix of stars and players actually win more games”… Adam Grant (link to full clip in comments). I shared this video with my 14yr old son on the way to his soccer game and explained to him the value of being a role player. It’s not how great you are but how great you can make everyone around you that matters. Stars typically are selfish, have egos and focus on themselves. Role players are selfless, are humble and do the small things that make the difference between winning and losing. The numbers in the pics are incredible. Having 2 stars versus 4 stars (double) is actually better for winning. In my experience, when there are less stars everyday players step up to the challenge instead of relying on a star to win the game. My 1998 National Champions Vols proved this. As you’re building a top performing team, make sure you have the right mix of stars and players. PS… my goal is to meet with Adam Grant; learn from the best. If you can make that happen or provide a connection, I’ll be extremely grateful.
Clapping for ‘98 Vols reference and the insightful post!
Not a Yankee fan (Go Rays) but had season tickets for their spring training games for many years and recall an underrated D3 role player named Scott Brosius picking up 3 rings and a WS MVP when he was there playing in the shadow of Jeter, Rivera, et al...always struck me as a guy I'd love on my team.
Love this. It encourages more team work and less individualism generating unreasonably exceptional gains.
Fascinating…Adam Grant is one of my recent favorite authors and speakers!
