7. That’s the number of women entrepreneurs we need to reach our October new member goal for Virtual Networkers. I used to shy away from setting goals — the disappointment of missing them can be heartbreaking. But then I asked myself: "Isn't the effort worth it, even if I don’t succeed?" Yes, it is. At least for me! But that doesn’t mean I still don’t get nervous when I publicly declare my goals. Prenups are on the rise for American couples (about 15% of couples now have one, up from 3% in 2010). For women, especially, these agreements can serve as a tool to safeguard assets, ensure financial independence, and uphold autonomy. I'm Mamma Rita, and my personal journey has shown me that one of the most impactful steps a woman can take for herself and her family is to embrace financial literacy and empowerment. Growing up, the silence around money matters left me in a perpetual cycle of financial uncertainty. It wasn't until I faced challenges and losses that I realized the profound impact financial knowledge can have on our lives. Today, as we celebrate the achievements of women throughout history, let's recognize that taking control of our financial narratives is a powerful form of empowerment. Financial literacy is a tool that transcends generations. My immigrant parents, through their hard work and savings ethic, set an example that inspired me to start my first retirement account at 18. However, without proper financial education, setbacks and losses ensued, challenging my sense of security. Women are often the primary caregivers and decision-makers in their families, making financial literacy a crucial skill. Being informed about money allows us to lead our families from a place of strength, resilience, and intentionality. It transforms the narrative from one of survival to leadership, ensuring that our loved ones are not just financially secure but also equipped with the knowledge to navigate life's uncertainties. As we celebrate Women's History Month, let's encourage one another to break free from financial cycles, prioritize financial education, and elevate our families to new levels of prosperity. Becoming intentional about money is an investment in our well-being, our families, and the legacy we leave for future generations.
