As someone who is a passionate Manchester United fan and work with clients with sports market research data on a daily basis it is difficult for me to see my once great club fall so far in the last decade since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club! In both sports and client account management there are clear goals and expectations and when those targets aren't met unfortunately there are consequences for individual contributors such as Erik Ten Hag! Sandeep's Sermons Almost there – the 4 to 16 jinx! As has been the norm, Olympics – 2024 was NO different from many of the previous ones for diehard Indians. It did not deprive us from our fair share of heart-burns and breaks! A big thank you to the athletes and players who gave us reasons to cheer in the form of 6 medals (I silver and 5 bronze). Is this enough? Does this do justice to expectations, hopes and dreams of 140 cr Indians? Could we have done much better? Have our athletes and players done justice to their talent and potential? As rank outsiders forming a majority population of highly opinionated individuals we have several suggestions and advices for both the players and the officials/organisers without ever having competed even at city or district level. Notwithstanding the above facts we can still draw some lessons for the future… 1.    Being Almost There is NOT the same as Actually Being There! 2.    We could not put our stamp on as many as 6 medals because we finished 4th in each of those. (Please refer the caption picture) 3.    If we were to fancy our chances in the 4 to 16 finishes (i.e. the round of 16 and the round of 8 that we could not clear) deprived us of a further minimum of 6 medals. 4.    Thus finishing with a tally of 15-18 medals appeared realistic. 5.    It was not to be, however, is a harsh reality. 6.    So what could have gone wrong? What could have been done but was not? Your guess is as good as mine. Corporate lessons: 1.    Either you are there or you aren’t 2.    If you aren’t the world forgets you in no time 3.    Your identity and fame is as good as your last success 4.    If you are not able to succeed again and again and … you do not exist 5.    Number 4 and subsequent finishes are not of much consequence 6.    Reasons, howsoever genuine, are neither heard nor appreciated 7.    Make your way OR Give way!
