Sound can help establish the overall tone of a film or show, setting the stage for the narrative that is to come.

Lights, camera … action The sooner we understand that we hold both the directorial and production roles in the metaphorical horror film of our lives, the sooner we can start transforming it into a different, more uplifting genre. It’s crucial to recognise that we have the power to influence the script, casting, and even the plot twists. By taking control and making intentional choices, we can steer our story towards a narrative that aligns with our aspirations and values. Until we embrace this responsibility, we will continue to misplace blame on external factors like the theatres and television networks, representing the circumstances and people we believe are responsible for our dissatisfaction. This externalisation of blame only serves to delay the positive changes we seek. Instead of attributing our poor experiences to outside influences, we need to look inward, reassess our role in the unfolding drama, and take proactive steps to reshape our reality. By doing so, we empower ourselves to create a life story that is not only bearable but genuinely fulfilling.

TL;DR is go see #MonkeyMan in theaters! Gold House's #WhyThisMatters social series started as a collaboration with Roc Su, thinking of ways to incentivize the AAPI community to show up and see amazing projects. There are a lot of ways to raise awareness for a campaign: paid spend, brand partnerships, or influencers. But the most underrated and underestimated method is the word-of-mouth campaign. Sharing the one-off fun facts has been the sustaining lifeline for pop culture. The water cooler conversations we often gloss over or malign have a significant impact on the collective consciousness. There's a reason why we find certain pop culture trends/moments annoying: we keep talking about it. So if we want to put our money where our mouth is, let's talk about AAPI projects. Let's talk about representation, and about seeing ourselves on screen. And let's talk about dope projects, like Monkey Man. And if you need a reason to watch it, then that's what the Why This Matters series is for.
Gold House is proud to support Dev Patel’s MONKEY MAN, now playing in theaters! Patel’s directorial debut channels the kinetic energy of action films past, like John Wick and Atomic Blonde, while offering a critical lens into Indian politics, classism, and faith. And with the support of Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, audiences will see how thrilling diverse storytelling can be! Swipe through the carousel to learn more about this heart-pounding film, and let us know if you've seen the film in the comments!

What if each sector or community in the cinema industry really wanted to SAVE & IMPROVE CINEMA + THEATER GOING, what could they do? I haven't yet made the time to examine each position but I did start with THE ACTORS awhile ago. You can read that post here: https://lnkd.in/gvavQGgC But here's the starter list (of 20+ ideas):

Episode 3 The cling film effect Does your narc drive you mad? Not understanding what you have been explaining multiple times? Changing their mind, when you thought it was all agreed? Making you feel useless, worthless and not appreciated? Managing expectations is a huge help in unsparking the effects the narc is looking for. Recognise the ‘cling film effect’ and you know there is only one option. The clingfilm effect is when there is no clear beginning, ending or follow-up. Whatever angle you try, it doesn't work. Remember, it is not you!!!!! #unsparkthenarc #emotionalabuse #narcissism #narcissismawareness https://lnkd.in/eZW_tgyG

The latest issue of #SCIENCEFICTION FILM & TELEVISION is now available online. Volume 17.3 is a special issue, the first in the journal’s history devoted to #fantasy media, is dedicated to theorizing recent televisual fantasy and other fantasy media of the “post-TV” era with a particular emphasis on what we are describing as these “#serial #repetitions.” As this mode of entertainment and narrative transmission continues to develop and change, we find it necessary to ask such questions as: what is fantasy media today? And who is fantasizing about what, and why? https://lnkd.in/eqSsu5P4

These same questions can be asked about Visual Effects schools. Specifically, students should ask some fundamental questions before paying that tuition. 1- Will your school (and it's completion degree) increase your chances at getting a job? 2- Will there be jobs (entry level and upward) in your target industry after graduation? 3- Will you get a return on your investment of time and money back to you? 4- Would making your own projects and learning to sell your own products return better compensation?
Is film school still relevant in the modern age of media? 🎥🎬📽️🎞️😬
