I just defended my doctoral dissertation at the University of Pennsylvania! My research focused on Succession Candidate Development and I will be sharing more about the findings in posts to come. I want to thank the people around me for being an unbelievable support system. You celebrated the highs and lifted me up in the lows. One that deserves a special shout out is my wife Nasim Hemati who was side by side with me. While it took longer than expected, the experience taught me the true value of consistency. It’s remarkable what can be accomplished by simply putting one foot in front of the other, day after day. Life over a four-year period inevitably brings major changes, and I am no exception. Throughout this time, school was both a blessing and a challenge. It provided a constant source of direction and purpose, but also served as a weight, always requiring attention and effort. Being exposed to so much is a bit overwhelming. When you are in the middle of it, you don’t know what is going to stick and make an impact on you. Sometimes it is the little experiences that have the most impact. A research paper you read or a conversation with a school colleague that changes your perspective. Other times it is large moments like for me last night following the defense when you can sit back and take a deep breath and have that feeling of relief. Reflecting on the process, I learned a lot about myself. I have strengths as well as areas to continue to grow. I am grateful that I had this opportunity to work on myself. It has made me a better researcher, writer, trainer, facilitator, and business owner.
