In the wake of the Department of Energy's (DOE) December 2020 release of the Energy Storage Grand Challenge Roadmap, a comprehensive strategy aims to position the U.S. as a leader in energy storage by 2030. The #grandchallenge is a call to action for America to innovate, manufacture, and deploy energy storage technologies domestically, fostering a competitive edge in global markets. The roadmap, revised based on stakeholder feedback, sets forth ambitious targets, such as reducing the levelized cost of long-duration storage to $0.05/kWh and cutting the cost of battery packs for electric vehicles to $80/kWh. These goals underscore the DOE's commitment to enhancing grid reliability, fostering renewable energy integration, and ensuring energy resilience. ⚡️Distribution grids matter!⚡️ As the EU pushes towards its ambitious 42.5% renewable energy target, distribution grids will play a crucial role, with over 70% of renewable energy expected to be connected to distribution networks by 2030. We all know that rising carbon emissions is the challenge we need to overcome to make energy more environmentally friendly.
