SLPS is in a state of collapse, and disappointingly, very few elected officials have stepped forward to advocate for charting a new direction. Without a clear plan to revitalize and improve the school system, the city risks losing even more families with children. A thriving public education system is critical not only for retaining families but also for fostering long-term community growth and stability. It’s time for bold leadership and innovative solutions to address this pressing issue. https://lnkd.in/gsF5ZKzh

Lets set up a 1:1 to see what passive income looks like for you. Check your own facts. Registration for after school sports is at an alltime systemic low. Not because of transportation. Cota’s got you covered. Kids are needing to get part time jobs. Are you creating additional income for you family or are you limiting your childrens dream. Ive had a job since I was 14 so I get it but that job was built into a program. Cincinnati Union Terminal raised me. Youth programs made space for me to travel and even learn about grant writing years before I knew it would come in handy. Inflation is not going to stand in my way of creating wealth for me and my people. We’re passive about a lot of things. Come get passive with your money. #wealthcarefinancialservices

https://lnkd.in/ejuyMzHj An excellent insight by Zadie Smith. . Graduating in 1999, I rode the wave of progressive policies and pride in the forward thinking decisions made in terms of educational and social investment. Bouyed with optimism, I embarked on a creative academic career, after very nearly choosing law (perhaps that would have been the wiser choice given what came next). As we begin today with a new government I cannot help but assess what has been lost in that time. . I became a parent. And faced the reality of a totally underfunded childcare sector. Which personally led to me having no choice but to work part time and thus limit my prospects in a career that I love. Working as though I am not a parent. Parenting as though I do not work. One of my children has complex educational needs. It became a full time job advocating, fighting and navigating a broken system that fails to assure education for all. I became an expert in the law surrounding inclusion and accessibility. But that made little difference in the end. He will leave school with no formal qualifications as a result of the chronic underfunding for children in need. His future compromised. . I look around at a decimated arts sector, an underfunded and neglected higher education sector - the lack of career opportunities on my own recent job search and the numerous arts and humanities departments in redundancy point toward this unrecognisable decline. . As Zadie Smith articulates in her article, I have also struggled witnessing this decline. Not only for my own career but for the development and career prospects of my students. It is painful to see what our undergraduates contend with, across all areas, especially in contrast to my own experience. . Perhaps now the tide will turn. There is much to feel positive about today. We have certainly seen keen changes in the last couple of years where I work. While my own personal experiences remain challenging, as a professional and practitioner I am hopeful for what is yet to come. . However, it is imperative we remain vigilant. We have a responsibility to future generations. . . The time is now. #opentowork #bpc #cbhe #future #highereducation #arts #culture #degree #graduates #hope #ambition #growth

The The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales Centre for Early Childhood report on the task forces work us a great read. PVIs are already embodying many of the principles outlined in the taskforce report, demonstrating the effective integration of business practices into early childhood education. We (the PVI’s) provide a model for how business and education can work together to enhance the quality and accessibility of early years services. The challenge now is to extend these practices more broadly across the sector, ensuring that all children and families can benefit from these high standards, whether through PVIs, public institutions, or new business partnerships. By recognising and learning from the successes of PVIs, we can better understand how to leverage business resources and innovation to support early childhood development on a larger scale. Department for Education and Ofsted now really is the time to get a stratergy in place to build a World Class Education System 💜😇

California youth stand ready to help the state navigate its most pressing challenges. CA FWD’s Young Leaders Advisory Council (YLAC) released a call to action which outlines a vision for the future in four policy areas of greatest importance to the state's youth: climate resilience, education equity, housing access, and digital equity. YLAC urges policymakers to engage youth stakeholders and advance policies aligned with the values laid out in its call to action. YLAC aims to advance these values in state policy through direct advocacy and supporting the work of youth-led organizations working to make California a more just, equitable place for all. This story is a great example of a few trends in the nonprofit sector: -The challenge that administrative/compliance burdens can pose for nonprofits, particularly newer/smaller entrants in an established field. -The role that dedicated leadership at the organizational (nonprofit), administrative (state agency), and legislative (state legislature) levels plays in overcoming these barriers and identifying solutions. -How identifying funding sources outside of traditional government and philanthropic sources can potentially bring lots of flexibility to nonprofits -- but is also hard to do! -And finally, of course, the importance of well thought-out, wraparound, sector-focused programs. Love the work that Pursuit is doing to bring high-quality workforce development programming to scale! https://lnkd.in/e9cwtV7R

🗞 ❗ This is such an important piece in the Boston Globe highlighting Ariela Reynoso’s story and her experience navigating the cliff effect while trying to earn more for her family. The Cliff Effect occurs when a slight increase in income results in a disproportionate loss or reduction of public benefits like food or housing assistance, making it harder for families to achieve financial stability despite earning more. She is not alone; this is a challenge faced by many individuals and families across the state. This story underscores the importance of initiatives like the Bridge to Prosperity pilot program for those striving for economic mobility across the Commonwealth. This program will address Cliff Effects head-on by supporting individuals directly on their path to a higher-paying career without risking a financial cliff from the loss of benefits. Learn more about the cliff pilot here: https://lnkd.in/eiQaPVD3 ✨ A special shoutout to Women's Money Matters, our Boston area coaching partner, for their crucial role in helping Ariela navigate her finances and their ongoing efforts to empower women to achieve financial empowerment.
