Calling all travel tech founders - it is that time of the year again 😀 If you haven't already heard about the Global Startup Pitch then check it out - it is annual innovation competition organized jointly by Phocuswright and WIT WebInTravel and now running for the third time The first 2 years attracted more than 100 startups each year spread out across 4 regions in the world - and there is transparent and well defined process in place ensuring all startups are treated equally starting with a regional competition which then eventually determine who the global finalists are There is no cost of entering, and even though the deadline for joining is tomorrow - 17th May 2024 - the creator and driving force behind the competion - Siew Hoon Yeoh have extended the deadline for submission by one week if you contact her directly and tell her you saw this post I have been honored to be a judge in this competition the past 2 years, and the level of innovation and creativity on display around the world is truly fascinating - so if you want to measure yourself and your company against other like-minded startups then this is your chance. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking at and moderating a session at Moonshot by TechCabal. One of the standout moments was reconnecting with Malobi Ogbechie. Malobi shared an inspiring story about how a piece of advice I gave him two years ago during one of our Founders meetups reshaped his entrepreneurial journey. Back then, he was leveraging his extensive experience in freight forwarding and exploring ways to support micro-exporters. I encouraged him to validate his business offline before going digital. Today, Malobi’s venture, Kadankadan—a Port Harcourt-based logistics-tech company that’s driving export accessibility—is thriving, with a growing client base across Port Harcourt and Lagos. And the best part? They’re gearing up to launch version 1 of their tech solution! Huge congratulations to Malobi and the entire Kadankadan team—your success story truly brightened my day.
