In recent years, I've been involved in many projects related to backups, recovery, and disaster recovery. While these enterprise systems are typically top-notch and have larger budgets, I try to apply the same principles at home to my small, locally hosted data center and personal data. I need to securely backup & archive about 20 terabytes of data. It's nothing insane, but it's enough to make me reconsider my current setup, which is: 1️⃣ Redundant storage locally 2️⃣ Proper and frequent backups to an external system 3️⃣ Proper and frequent backups to two different cloud platforms 4️⃣ Offline & offsite backups of the most critical stuff, which is just a subset of all data This works well and is mostly automated for me. I'm still craving for a proper tape backup, but for now, I'll try to expand my setup to include a fifth option which is less costly: an offsite secure backup for *all* critical stuff. If I missed anything, any ideas for additional backup models are appreciated! #security #backup

National Van Lines (NVL), a moving and storage company, faced significant operational challenges due to frequent power outages in Chicago, which disrupted critical services and hampered their disaster recovery efforts. Seeking a robust solution, they partnered with IBM and Mainline to implement IBM Power Virtual Server, a cloud platform that transformed their infrastructure. This not only reduced disaster recovery times from days to hours but also eliminated the need for physical tape backups, cutting costs and enhancing reliability. Greg Moore, VP of IT at NVL, praised the seamless transition and newfound confidence in their cloud solution, stating, “It’s solid. We’re confident in it.” With IBM's support, NVL is now well-equipped to ensure uninterrupted operations and provide exceptional service to their customers, regardless of future challenges. #CloudMigration #IBM #BusinessContinuity #NationalVanLines Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/guRp2N-W Georgina Bhoyar Rachana Vishwanathula
