🌟 Here’s our two cents; Eye Health Awareness🌟 In a recent Curly Tales video, critical insights about the future of eye health have come to light, and we had to share these with you. 🔍 Eye Health Crisis: By 2050, it's projected that 50% of children in our country will be myopic. This stark reality emphasizes the urgent need for early eye health intervention and education. 👁️ Late Diagnosis: Almost 50% of people in India seek medical attention only when they have already lost sight in one eye. This delay in seeking treatment makes managing and reversing vision loss much more challenging. 💔 Emotional Impact: The video highlighted a poignant story of two young men who brought their mother to the doctor, fearing she might never see again. The next day, when her bandages were removed, she saw her sons' faces for the first time in 20 years. This moving moment underscores the profound impact of timely and effective eye care. Your eyes deserve the utmost attention and care. We need to prioritize regular eye check-ups and early interventions to combat this growing epidemic. #SeeClearly #EyeHealth #VisionCare #HealthcareAwareness #MyopiaPrevention #EarlyIntervention

Doctor: Is anyone blind in your family? Patient: Eh! God forbid. I reject it in Jesus Name. It is not my portion. I cancel every... 😅😅Relax naw. It's just a simple harmless question. 💃🏼💃🏼 Today, we will be talking about the essence of knowing your Family Ocular History i.e. the story of the eyes of your family members, in simple terms. 😁 Some of us live like we are isolated humans, meanwhile, we all come from a family with a genetic and hereditary connection. And because we are connected, some things 'run' in the family bloodline, whether you agree or not, another reason blood is thicker than water. 😁 Hence, as optometrists, we often ask 'Does anyone in the family have an eye problem? Is anyone(alive or late) blind? Has anyone done an eye surgery before? Do you know if anyone has cataract or glaucoma?" Sometimes, the reply is in the affirmative. This is not a problem in itself, the problem is not to take any precaution if you have to. Some of these eye conditions are hereditary. You must arm yourself with this information to help you keep a due check on your eyes, stay in shape, and avoid preventable vision loss and blindness, especially from sight-threatening glaucoma.😓 Find out your family ocular history today, it might save you a lot of future tears. Make your faith declarations accordingly too. It shall be unto you according to your faith. 👍 Also, remember that faith without works is dead, not everything is Ogun aye(demonic influence). Knowledge is power. 🥺 Get registered at an Optometric Clinic and get your eyes checked. I presently work at Sharpview Optometric Clinic, Ibadan, and what I do, is eye care. 💜💜 Thank you! 💞 I am Dr Oluwadamilola Tanimowo. "Glaucoma is the umbrella term used for a group of eye conditions which can cause vision loss due to changes in the optic nerve,” explains SouthCoast Health Optometrist Dr. Edward Sammons. Only a comprehensive vision exam with a dilated eye exam can accurately detect glaucoma, so it's important to make time for this exam periodically! I want to share a bias I have noticed in medicine. I would like to hear your thoughts. Please share below: A woman comes to me for her annual exam. Shes had a left breast mass thats 3cm hurts daily, is bothersome and has shown up in imaging needing further imaging and often requires annual reimaging. Shes been told multiple times by surgeons, radiologists that its fine not cancerous so she doesn’t need removal. If that same woman had the same mass on her leg, thigh, vulva, anywhere else on her body but her breasts and it bothered her daily causing pain, surgeons would gladly remove it. Why because the mass is on her breast is there such a resistance to removing a mass thats causing daily discomfort?? In this scenerio I do know great breast surgeons who would caringly help this woman. So I do refer but why is this bias out there? I think best to identify the bias so we can actively change the thinking in our culture of medicine. #womenshealth #breasthealth #breastmedicine

The latest screen time stats are out. According to DataReportal, the average American spends 7 hours and 3 minutes looking at screens every day. It’s no surprise that eye strain is a common complaint people bring to their eye doctors. To help combat headaches and blurry vision that may accompany extended screen time, try the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and focus on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. #EyeStrain #20202Rule #HealthyEyes Surface Ophthalmics

#worldoptometryday Optical stores and optometrists can play an impactful role in facilitating first line eye disease screening. Regular eye health check-ups are the need of the hour in the cases of diagnosis of eye diseases such as Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), and Glaucoma. An on-time detection of the disease supports immediate treatment planning which is crucial to avoid further vision deterioration and blindness which is also a highly prevalent outcome in these diseases. Optometrists play an impactful role in facilitating quick and quality eye screening at the optical stores which reduces the high workload and costs associated in the hospital centers. RetCAD™- an Artificial Intelligence based Software provides fast and effective diagnosis of AMD, DR and Glaucoma at optical stores to inspire proactive eye care. I thoroughly enjoyed Iain Moppett's editorial in the latest issue of Age & Ageing. The final paragraph provides a timely insight into a challenge I've been working on for the past two years: ensuring preventive measures are taken once a patient at risk is identified. This is especially relevant as I prepare to share some of my findings at the American Delirium Society Conference from June 9-11 😁 "So is Dodsworth et al’s new model [5] going to solve postoperative delirium? Of course not, but it, or indeed any systematic approach to assessing risk may help. By giving clinicians an anchor for informed decision making, prompting individual level proactive management before surgery, providing an evidence base for need, and maybe simplest of all—a reminder to assess at risk patients after surgery." https://lnkd.in/enHZDy77
