Just wrapped up an incredible few days at SRECon EMEA 2024 in Dublin 🇮🇪 ! This conference was a whirlwind of insights, connections, and a look into the future of Reliability Engineering. Here are a few key takeaways:
1️⃣ Feedback Loops Matter: Consistently incorporating real-time feedback, especially in production environments, was a theme throughout. Building in feedback mechanisms can make or break our response to complex changes.
2️⃣ On-Call Shouldn’t Depend on Heroics: Reducing the mental load and finding sustainable, team-driven solutions for on-call was an eye-opener. Structured rotations and reducing tacit knowledge are essential.
3️⃣ SLOs Tied to User Experience: Many discussions focused on moving beyond traditional metrics and ensuring service level objectives (SLOs) align with actual user experiences. It’s about more than uptime—it’s about quality of service and satisfaction.
4️⃣ Data, Data, Data: From telemetry lakes to predictive metrics, data was front and center. Unlocking its potential requires an efficient data architecture, but the payoff can be transformative for decision-making.
5️⃣ Resilient Team Culture: Building a culture of openness and knowledge-sharing was a recurring message. When we celebrate team wins, advocate for “glue” work, and manage for operational maturity, everyone benefits.
Thanks to everyone I had the chance to meet and learn from—looking forward to implementing some of these insights with my Collibra team!
