New podcast episode! This month's instalment of The Dark Dive takes a listener question as the starting point to tackle a huge topic - data leaks on the dark web: https://lnkd.in/d4chvkdX Adam Wilson and Luke D. discuss noteworthy #dataleaks from over the years - impacting organizations such as 23andMe, Ashley Madison, and Yahoo! We look at how data such as credit card information, addresses, passwords, usernames, and even biometric information is stolen in the first place, how it is packaged and sold on the dark web, and the implications of highly sensitive data being leaked. Things are brought right up to the present day by looking at the recent data leaks on #BreachForums impacting Ticketmaster and Santander customers. #Data for #financial #markets includes closing prices and reference data, which collectors typically sell to service providers. These #providers then sell that data to end users like #banks, #brokerage #houses, #fund #managers and #hedgefund managers. The large quantity of data involved creates challenges such as #intellectual property rights and #security vulnerabilities. For example, #datacollectors must ensure they have #legal rights to the data. They must also detect and remove any #malware from the data. Be sure to check out this #episode of Data Unchained with Jonathan Bloch from Exchange Data International (EDI), and more on all your favorite #podcast platforms! 2.7 Billion total records were exposed from the US National Public Data, there are some caveats with regard to the integrity of the full body of data. That was from an attack that happened on December 2023, but the data started to be sold in April 2024 and then a free download post of parts of the data in August 2024. Hornetsecurity explored this topic in a recent podcast episode and now in this new blog post https://lnkd.in/edn7PxXb #cybersecurityawarenessmonth #npddatabreach #hornetsecurity #protectyourdata

Ever wonder why I know about JoJo Siwa? Me neither. But somehow that info seeps into my brain uninvited. Meanwhile, actually important stuff like "Hey, your entire family's personal data just got leaked to hackers" barely makes a blip. Yep, you read that right. The biggest data breach in history just happened, affecting up to 2.9 BILLION people. Names, addresses, social security numbers - everything needed to steal your identity is now out there. Scary stuff, I know. But don't panic - there are steps you can take to protect yourself and your family. That's why Jacob Espinoza and I brought security expert The Secure Dad, LLC onto the Dad and Company podcast this week. Andy Murphy breaks down: - Why freezing your credit (and your kids' credit) is a necessity - Red flags to watch for in your kids online interactions - How predators are evolving their tactics (hint: forget stranger danger, worry about Roblox) It ain't exactly feel-good listening. But as dads, we gotta stay informed. The best part, Andy explains it all without going full doomsday prepper on us. Just practical advice delivered with a calm demeanor. Studying cybersecurity has been an eye-opening journey, blending my passion for storytelling with the intricate world of digital protection. With a background in cinema and television production, I've always been captivated by the power of media to shape narratives and influence perspectives. As I delve deeper into the realm of cybercrime, hackers, hacktivism, and the broader cybersecurity landscape, I find myself at the intersection of technology and storytelling. Media like "Darknet Diaries" have been instrumental in this exploration, offering fascinating insights through interviews with intriguing guests and discussions on compelling topics. ... https://lnkd.in/guEBDM7k ... #cybercrime #cybereducation

The IT Privacy and Security Weekly Update Hits the Launderette for the Week Ending May 21st., 2024 Episode 190 This week we start with a tale that will bring happiness to every University Students’ mother. We follow with another that has one woman fuming while everyone involved claims it was a coincidence. There is an update on the tattletale car story and the short, sharp, slap that lawmakers gave automakers recently. We find out the name of the company whose employee was tricked into a $25 million transfer. Then a story that will make the blood boil of anyone who’s been let go during the ongoing waves of tech layoffs. A Cyber security giant tells us why large language models can never be secure. And we end with what we would almost call an obscene invasion of privacy from a collaboration tool that we all used to trust. We won’t promise you that this weeks update will get your socks clean, but at least there’s no pre-soaking required. Come on! Let’s wash!
