Leaders in independent schools are having to make some hard decisions at the moment, especially those in the UK facing the possible addition of VAT to school fees. Some of these decisions could be classified as ‘wicked’ - defined as a problem where multiple stakeholders want different, sometimes contradictory, outcomes. In last week's podcast episode I explored how NASA approaches this type of problem, drawing out lessons for school leaders. Today's episode explores this further, and I have three questions for school leaders: 1. What ‘wicked’ problems are you trying to solve, and what contradictory outcomes do the stakeholder want that makes them wicked? 2. What system do you have in place to brainstorm new ways of doing things, anticipate knock-on consequences and rapidly revise the plans? 3. Are you and your team ready to embrace change that might feel hard? Do let me know your thoughts below.... https://bit.ly/3PnXnYh

𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬! In today's rapidly evolving landscape, organizations are facing unprecedented challenges, particularly with the rapid advancement of AI technology. Start-ups can be disrupted overnight, and customer expectations are higher than ever. To navigate these challenges effectively, leaders must employ dynamic leadership styles tailored to the situation at hand. Situations like this clearly demands a leadership style which involves clear plan of action, faster decision making and staying on top of innovation curve. That's why I've taken a moment to delve into the topic of "Peacetime" vs "Wartime" leadership. While Peacetime leadership thrives in calm, stable market conditions, Wartime leadership is crucial for overcoming tough challenges. Building both skill sets is essential for effective leadership. Listen to this episode wherever you listen to your favorite podcast. Link in the comments. #peacetime #wartime #leadership 𝐏.𝐒: I fully acknowledge that the term 'war' is not inclusive and have a negative sentiments to it in the current times. This term is taken from a book by Ben Horowitz which I have as well referenced in the podcast.
