Two weeks ago I shared my latest baseball analytics project, which is a framework for evaluating pitching change decision making in Major League Baseball. Since then, I have been running the decisions from each playoff game through the framework and showcasing the output in the dashboard that I created. If you're a fan of baseball and are curious how various decisions have been graded, check them out here! Also note that I will be doing this throughout the postseason, so follow along if you're so inclined. If you'd like to learn more about what is going on in the backend or how to use the dashboard, then click on the "Dashboard Information" tab and there you can find links to two blog posts that will walk you through everything. Yesterday I used draw.io to create a simple Conceptual Data Model for my capstone project. Here, the MLB stats are organized from Season Type down to specific Hitting & Pitching stats. At the top, Season Type tells us the part of the baseball year we’re looking at (Regular Season or the World Series). And going down, Season and Game stats are both split into Hitting and Pitching stats for each Team and Player. How's it looking? Any thoughts or suggestions? Really good article, thanks Anirban Majumder for sharing this. The core according to me, was how to solve Cold start problems, that the article calls "mysteries" , focus on creating the dataset through intelligent efficient experimentation , rather than just looking to fit models on non-representative historical data. 1. Use data analytics only to optimize when solving puzzles—and when you know exactly what you’re trying to solve. 2. If facing a mystery that you don’t, or can’t, fully understand, dial down efforts to optimize, rely less on flawed data models, and focus instead on resilience and experimentation. #ai #datascience
