In 2012, #MidnightMoment was birthed. In 2024, Times Square Arts, the Times Square Alliance Public Art Program, has continued to push the mission to bring the most contemporary artists to the widest, most diverse audience. Jean Cooney and the team of TSqArts and TJ Witham's relentless communications push (since the beginning!) has integrated it into the identity of #TimesSquare. The artist roster and related events to bring it to a live and digital experience has challenged content ingenuity of cultural and commercial creators for 12 years now. AND it has entertained and excited the everyday New Yorker or visitor. When we founded the effort, building on from work of artist Jane Dickson, Public Art Fund, Creative Time, PERFORMA and Chashama Admin, we knew that it's success would be in the longevity, the growth and its ability to be an instigator for other cities, commercial landscapes and artists. 'If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere..' [ps. please note these ambitions NYC digital efforts coincidently have/had female leaders]. Now it's a national news story; a topic in academic discourse; a recommendation from a cabbie and a treasured experience for artists. There was so much challenge and risk in the effort to coordinate so many blocks of #digital #realestate - for everyone. We couldn't guarantee what ROI would happen. I knew the effort wouldn't begin to really pay off until years 2-3, but now Times Square offers a countdown to midnight every night of the year; and every month it is different. Artists make our ordinary seem spectacular and our spectacular available in our ordinary day. #CreativePlacemaking and #CulturalPlacemaking is about finding ways in which we open that opportunity as frequently as possible. #urbandevelopment and #artists can share the ambition and addiction to risk for something greater. The public are ready for the unexpected; they live or visit urban environments for that. some of the founding team Times Square Advertising Coalition - TSAC / Tim Tompkins / Tom Harris / #KaManTse / Ellen Goldstein / Natascha Theis / Gary Winkler /Damian Santucci / Sean E. October’s #MidnightMoment ‘Floating World’ by A.A Murakami and co-presented with artnet is on view nightly from 11:57pm to 12am, synchronized across 95 of our iconic billboards. Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Nashville State of the Market Event hosted by Bisnow. The event featured two engaging panel discussions: one on Music City Development & Investment Outlook, and the other on the Rise of The East Bank. Here are a few key takeaways: 1. Companies are strategically expanding other real estate services while most await changes in interest rates. #Adaptability 2. In the market today, there aren’t easy answers to most real estate solutions, so sometimes you must walk away and pick it back up tomorrow. #Persistency 3. As the new Tennessee Titans Stadium is being developed, stakeholders across all asset classes must work together for the success of the East Bank of Nashville. #Collaboration As a DEI intern, I can assert that inclusion can drive collaboration, increase productivity, and reduce stress in the workplace. It is safe to say that this concept can be applied to community developments as well. Thank you to all of today’s panelists! #EastNashville #commercialrealestate #growth

Building a tech-enabled company comes with a mix of different challenges, emotions, and intricacies. I embarked on the journey to innovate in the creative industry 445 days ago. A journey I knew there was no turning back from. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and nights felt like a thousand years. I met some amazing people along the way, learned some hard lessons, got beaten down, felt alone, and became stronger than ever. I burnt the midnight oil with my head constantly searching for solutions with so much conviction that one existed. Good news, We found it! Growth comes with pain, and I felt every bit of it. It’s a humbling experience, and I wish everyone gets to feel it at some point. The idea that our transactions and consumer engagement shouldn't be detached from our values, relationships, or community, but instead complimented by those important things, is certainly the way forward for our economy. We've been immeasurably blessed by the small business owners on our site. They have inspirational stories to tell and high-quality products to sell, so we're always looking for additional ways to showcase them. With that, we at PublicSquare are proud to announce the launch of 'PublicSquare Live'. PublicSquare Live is a QVC-style live shopping experience where we interview business owners, share exclusive discounts on their products, provide an opportunity for consumers to ditch the big box retailers, and shift consumer spending to family-owned and operated, high-quality vendors. While envisioning how best to execute this exciting initiative, I met the legendary Erin Elmore, Esq. a former long-time QVC host, current TV personality, and devoted patriot. She was immediately drawn to the vision and decided it would be a great use of her skillset to jump 'all in' and launch this with us. On top of that, when RealAmericasVoice heard about this, they stepped up and offered to host the show on air for their millions of viewers (A huge shoutout to Rob Sigg and the team over there! They do fantastic work.) You can view the first episode that aired this past Saturday evening on Real America's Voice at the link in this post, and I'll link a PR in the comment section that describes this initiative in greater detail if you're interested in learning more. We're saving the country through the power of commerce and we'd love it if you join us. Onward and upward! https://lnkd.in/eYJ6pC3X

We recently completed a strategic planning process for the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center Performing Arts Center in New Bedford. When we first met with them, they knew they had hit a wall with the old way of being. The world was still emerging from the pandemic and it seemed like an urgent time to think creatively about what kind of organization they wanted to be going forward. 🌀 To ensure the community’s needs were centered in the process, we invited members of the community to sit on the planning team with members of the staff from various levels of the organization. ❓ We articulated important questions about how to take a tried and true way of approaching their work, and rethink it to ensure the organization was truly of, by and for the community. 💪 They were fierce in their pursuit of a new way, and they were courageous in how willing they were to rethink past practices that did not serve them. We had many courageous conversations in which they rolled up their sleeves and got into the work of reconceiving their organization to deeply integrate inclusion, relevance, access, and their role in serving those community needs. We drew on Appreciative Inquiry to open the process in a positive possibility mindset, we drew on the identification of barriers and the consensus method from Technology of Participation to facilitate these deep conversations and surface the best ideas from the collective. Throughout the process, we elevated community voice to ensure the resulting plan was responsive to community needs. 🙌 The plan that emerged was truly transformative. It speaks to a wholly different organization in the future. The core of their mission (presenting performances) is being reimagined so it will be more inclusive and showcase the full range of diversity in and around their community. They took tremendous risks, and we applaud them and are excited to see how this might shift the audiences who come see their work and feel a sense of belonging at “The Z” in the future. They are also going through a huge renovation physically, so the unveiling will truly be a metamorphosis for this amazing organization. Now they are doing the hard work of living into this strategy, which literally includes a goal to “Unlearn oppressive behaviors and embrace a culture of justice and inclusion.” #transformativeplanning #courageousconversations #inclusivestrategy

Submissions for South by South West Sydney are now open! Check out the fab new conference tracks added to the event at https://sxswsydney.com/. The question on everyone's mind is, will Kate attend? Living in the UK and Europe, one big takeaway for me was how well they set up institutions. In contrast, temporary things like working groups and commissions tend to be political footballs in NZ. That's why I'm excited to share the Institutional Architecture Lab's guide to designing new institutions. Institutions are a crucial part of systems change, and those in the field of new ways of doing things need to understand how to embed that change. Check out the guide at https://lnkd.in/gGfVxXAd. The Edelman Trust Barometer from a few months ago was all about innovation and trust. The results show that trust in science, innovation, and its management is getting worse. It's clear that we need to take control of our future. CAN ART SURVIVE THE COST OF LIVING CRISIS AND UPLIFT COMMUNITIES? The arts sector is suffering from rising living costs, which impose significant financial pressure on artists and organisations. As materials, production, and daily living expenses increase, many creatives find themselves at a crossroads. However, these challenges also offer a chance to rethink how art can meaningfully connect with and support communities. In response, artists and arts organisations adapt and innovate, exploring new ways to engage with audiences while prioritising community well-being. This situation underscores the vital role of art in fostering connection, expression, and resilience during tough times, enabling artists to sustain their work while promoting a sense of belonging and support within their communities. Dr Tully Barnett, Associate Professor of Creative Arts at Flinders University, joined us today to discuss how the cost-of-living crisis is hitting the arts and how we can shift the focus to art’s role in building stronger, more resilient communities.
