Dashing through the sunshine states with impressive speed are two phenomenal high-speed rail projects, and guess what? They hail from Texas and Florida, two traditionally conservative states. Florida has already broken through the tape with their operational 'Bright Line,' a splendid service that streaks from Miami to our favorite travel destinations at speeds of approximately 145 to 150 miles per hour. Imagine that! It's swift enough to take you to your destinations within just a few hours. Diving into the politics of it all, it's noteworthy that some have qualms about how Florida operates. But let's park that aside for a moment and recognize the fact that they get significant projects like this done...and done quickly at that! This success story isn't a government-led initiative either; it's a sterling example of private sector prowess. So, let's kickstart a conversation. How do you think this impacts the future of travel, the economy, and the public-private partnership model? Let's chat!

What does "alternative" mean? It simply refers to another option or choice. In the case of Highway 55, we're not suggesting that it's abandoned altogether. Instead, we're advocating for exploring viable alternative routes that can help alleviate the increasing traffic congestion and improve safety. By providing more options for travel, we can distribute traffic more evenly and reduce the strain on Highway 55. This will not only make our roads safer but also enhance the quality of life for everyone in our community. #PathwaysForwardIdaho #AlternativeRoutes #TrafficRelief #SafetyFirst #Idaho

The missing layer when we calculate the benefits of high speed rail in NSW is its secondary impact to other regional communities. Reducing travel time to, say, Newcastle to 45 minutes as proposed could simultaneously reduce travel times for every regional connection north of Broadmeadows. For example, my current trip to Tenterfield (my second home for the last year), is 10.5 hours on a good day. Putting aside locals' desire to reinstate the existing rail line (which currently terminates at Armidale), with proper transfer the travel time to Tenterfield could come down to around 9hours (which means arriving at 7pm instead of 8:30pm, and leaving at 7am instead of 5:30am - a huge difference in the commuter experience). Armidale would go from 8 hours to 6.5, tamworth from 6 to 4.5 and so forth. Not only have you reduced travel times, you've now made them almost exactly comparable to driving from Sydney. If anything, actual travel time would be faster now by rail - given the need to stop when making the trip by car. That is revolutionary when we think about its effect on mode choice. Whether it's North, West or South from Central Station - the effect is the same. Something to strengthen the pitch for fast rail and its benefits for the whole of our state? #fastrail #transport #planning
