It's Annual Results day! 📈 MTN reported its set of annual results, covering our financial performance for the year ended 31 December 2023📝. Subsequently, for MoMo from MTN, we report the following salient points: > Active Mobile Money (MoMo) users are up by 5% to 72.5 million subscribers across our markets. > The momentum in volume and value of MoMo transactions remained strong and were up by 32.2% and 47.4%*, respectively. This underpinned strong advanced service revenue growth of 54.8%*. > The volume of #fintech transactions also increased by around a third to 17.6 billion, with the value of transactions across the fintech platform up at US$272 billion, driven by growth of advanced services in #payments, #banktech and #remittance solutions. > Agents and merchants grew by 5.4% and 42.5% to 1.3 million and 2.1 million respectively. > Another key highlight was concluding an agreement for payment network processor Mastercard to invest up to US$200 million for a minority stake in MTN Group Fintech at a valuation of US$5.2 billion. #AnnualResults #Fintech #MoMo

It is well known that many South Africans have two sims in their devices and swap these out for others from time to time, so the Telco landscape is ever changing. However, what has been a constant over the past few years, is the dominance of MTN and Vodacom. There unrivaled network connectivity puts them head & shoulders above Cell C and Telkom. Furthermore, MTN (YelloBucks) and Vodacom (VodaBucks) are the only two providers with rewards programmes. This is surprising, given that the most valued loyalty benefit, by households with a monthly income of R10K and below, is data and airtime (https://lnkd.in/dwZjkkFx). Things are hotting up in SA's #MVNO space with Vodacom now stating its commitment to the MVNO model. ISPA noted a need for regulatory support for MVNOs earlier in the month: "More needs to be done than a bare obligation in a licence to ensure [the MVNO] spark of competition is nourished." There are currently around 20 active MVNOs in South Africa.
