⚓ SEA Naval, the SEA Europe permanent working group representing the interests of European naval shipyards, has published its Press Release on the European Commission publication of the European Defence Industrial Strategy #EDIS and European Defence Investment Programme #EDIP. They notably remind that while defence-wide horizontal initiatives are critical for Europe’s strategic autonomy and protection, the naval shipbuilding industry is also heavily dependent on a robust commercial shipbuilding industry. Davide Cucino, SEA Naval Chairman highlights: “Commercial and military shipbuilding are the two sides of the same coin and share up to 70% of assets: workforce, facilities, raw materials, equipment, etc. This is the very reason we, in SEA Europe, are pledging for a vigorous European Maritime Industrial Strategy to reinforce the Europe’s maritime industrial sovereignty, technological leadership, and in turn economic security and strategic autonomy”. ⚓ Following the publication of the European Commission Communication on European Defence Industrial Strategy #EDIS and European Defence Investment Programme #EDIP, SEA Naval publishes its Press Release. Davide Cucino, SEA Naval Chairman, reacts: "To recover a strong and autonomous EDTIB, the EU and Member States will need to dedicate immense resources and efforts in the current Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and sustain these under the next one. Today should only be the starting point.” SEA Naval strongly supports the Commission's efforts to reinforce the EDTIB by providing a tailored-made Strategy. Naval shipyards, as critical contributors to the European defence, fully endorse the ambition to provide the Union’s defence industry with long-term visibility through increased predictability and firm orders. The international organization for armament cooperation, #OCCAR, has exercised the option for the construction of the fourth next-generation submarine under the #U212NFS program for the #ItalianNavy. The unit has a total value of approximately 500 million euros. A signing ceremony took place in Muggiano on the occasion of the steel cutting for the third NFS submarine, attended by OCCAR Director Joachim Sucker, General Manager Naval Vessels Division Dario Deste, and Director of Naval Armaments Giuseppe #Abbamonte. The day was further highlighted by the activation of a significant Engineering Change Proposal for the industrialization in Italy, production, and integration on board all U212NFS submarines of an innovative lithium energy storage system. The U212NFS submarines will be highly innovative thanks to significant design modifications that we have developed independently in accordance with the Navy's requirements, to meet the need to ensure adequate surveillance and control capabilities of underwater spaces. An important step to put our know-how and technologies at the service of sea protection, moving towards leadership in the underwater sector. #Fincantieri #FutureOnBoard #Underwater #Innovation #Defense Marina Militare OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation)
