'Bad strategy won't survive contact with reality'. Currently developing the strategy for a client engagement and I like having first principles to keep me honest. I love 'Good Strategy Bad Strategy' by Richard Rumelt for this. Good strategy honestly and courageously names the true problem we face. Then diagnoses it. Then finds the root cause. Then figures out how to turn that weakness into a strength. And finally has a plan to bring this to life. Bad strategy avoids naming the real problems and floats free of analysis or choice. It doesn't mean anything in reality. Richard's summary helps keep me honest, sharing in case it's of use for you too. Have you tried it? Have you had a strategy genuinely help you to radically focus your work? Today’s tip: testimonials! NOTHING helps convert people better than happy clients and partners saying you’re wonderful. Do you have a process to get more testimonials and reviews for your business? If not, it might be time to get one. Some ideas: 1. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. So ask for reviews. 2. Make it easy. Send a direct link to your Google My Business review page with your request. 3. Ask specific questions to get more information. What was your main challenge? Why did you choose us? What results did you get? What exceeded expectations? 4. Sometimes people are happy to give a review, but it’s not a priority. You may have to do the heavy lifting. Offer to send a draft based on their answers to the questions above. 5. If you’re scared to ask, try this sneaky trick. Ask for positive and negative feedback when you finish a project. When you get positive feedback with next to nothing negative, say thanks and ask if you can post it as a review. Reviews are also great to revisit on those days your confidence is shaky. They remind you that you do have clients who like what you do and that it is all worth it. What are you waiting for? #marketingtips #businessgrowth #feedback

GOAL vs. STRATEGY vs. PLAN 🎯 Goal: The outcome you want. 💡 Strategy: An informed theory about how, where, and with whom you can win (and saying no to everything else). ☑️ Plan: A set of activities you say you’re going to do. _________________________ ⬆️Those are my current definitions of these particular indefinables. Because I struggle when they’re all referred to as “strategy.” Ex. “Our strategy is to have x% market share.” (⬅️ a goal) Or “Our strategy is to update our onboarding experience.” (⬅️ a plan) This makes it sound like every business has 10,000 unfocused “strategies”—which kind of means they don’t have any strategy at all… (Side note: I think it happens because we all feel we need a strategy, but goals and plans are a lot easier to create…) So set a goal. Develop a strategy you believe will help you get there. Execute a plan to make it so. Adjust as needed. As always, I’m not trying to be right, I’m trying to be helpful. 👍 These simple distinctions helped me. #Strategy #Goal #Plan #InternalCommunications #InternalComms #EmployerBrand #EnglishIsHard

Why do benefits resonate more than features? Here’s the truth...... While features lay out the specifics, it’s the benefits that connect on an emotional level. Features may show what’s included, but benefits show clients why it matters—and, most importantly, what’s possible for them. Take this: a “customized action plan” is a feature, but the benefit? It’s clarity, confidence, and a roadmap without overwhelm. Benefits reveal the transformation and tap into a client’s need for growth, clarity, and peace of mind. When you focus on benefits, you’re offering more than a list; you’re painting a picture of the transformation that awaits them. Clients don’t just want details—they want solutions, outcomes, and a better version of their lives or businesses. That’s why benefits make the connection. So, next time you’re sharing what you do, ask yourself: am I simply describing the “what,” or am I revealing the “why” that shows them a new path forward? Benefits drive action, inspire hope, and speak to what clients truly value. And that’s where the magic happens. P.S. "I'm overwhelmed and stressed." While a messy plan is definitely better than no plan at all, there's a way to get faster, better results. People may wing it, and it works… Sometimes. But mostly, it leads to: ☒ stress, ☒ missed deadlines, ☒ and frustrated clients. If you want to have a complete 180, be strategic with your plan to gain: ☑ focus, ☑ clarity, ☑ and success. You've won half the battle once you've mapped out a roadmap to get your business from point A to point B. Now, you have to take the step and put things in motion. You can map out the most epic strategy ever, but if you don't take that first step, nothing changes. ♻️ Repost this to help others simplify planning for better execution. Here's one thing we started doing as an agency that was a game-changer for our relationships with our clients. We started doing what we call "Top to Tops." Every 60 to 90 days, we sit down with our clients and ask the tough questions. We want to know what’s working, what’s not, and most importantly, how we can help them grow their business. The one consistent piece of feedback? Agencies need to be more proactive. Clients crave forward-thinking ideas that push their business to the next level. They don’t just want to know what’s happened; they need insights and strategies that keep them ahead of the competition. Regular "Top to Top" sessions are crucial. Honest feedback helps you address issues before they escalate and highlights what’s working well. The key to success is discovering potential problems before your clients think about leaving. Open communication and genuine investment in your client’s success allow you to adapt and improve continuously. #ClientFeedback #Agency #Growth

Ever heard the phrase “fail forward”? Let's flip it. What if I told you that some of your biggest mistakes are actually your company’s secret superpower? Think of them as that awkward, clumsy superhero who trips over their cape but somehow still saves the day. Here’s why you should throw a party for your next colossal screw-up: Mistakes are Free Research Who needs to pay for market research when your errors tell you exactly what not to do? Did you launch a product that flopped harder than a pancake? Congratulations! You just learned what your customers really don’t want. And you didn’t have to conduct a single survey. Failure as a Trust Builder No one trusts the guy who’s never made a mistake. It’s like going on a date with someone who says they “eat clean” 100% of the time. Show your clients and partners that you’ve taken a few hits and lived to tell the tale. That’s authenticity they can believe in! The Creative Juice Cleanse Nothing sparks creativity like being on the edge of a business disaster. When Plan A to Z has failed, welcome to the land of "what if?" Who knows, maybe your next best idea will come from a last-ditch brainstorm session over cold pizza and stress coffee. 💡 Epic Failures = Epic Stories 📖 Who doesn’t love a good disaster story? Just think, someday you could be at a networking event saying, “Remember that time we accidentally emailed our entire customer base a cat meme? Yeah, that’s when we learned the value of proofreading.” Laughter + lessons learned = unforgettable brand personality. So, next time something goes wrong, don’t panic. Instead, grab some balloons, make a cake, and celebrate the fact that your next big success might be hiding behind today’s biggest facepalm. #Innovation #Mindset #Strategy #SmallBusiness #Marketing #Hiring #Success

Your business plan is perfect. So why isn't it working? 😏 Sometimes, it’s not the plan, it’s the execution. A few missed steps can make the whole strategy shaky. If your business isn’t growing like you thought it would, don’t panic—adapt. Here’s how to course-correct: ▶️Revisit your goals: Are they too ambitious for the timeline? ▶️Engage your customers: Is your target audience feeling heard and valued? ▶️Focus on cash flow: No matter how perfect the plan, money keeps the business breathing. ▶️Accept feedback: Even tough feedback is an opportunity to improve. ▶️Re-evaluate your team: Are the right people in the right roles? Plans can be perfect. Execution needs a little patience, a little tweaking, and a lot of heart. #businessdevelopment #businessgrowth #businessworld #businessstrategy

💭 "A client’s fear of making the wrong decision is louder than their excitement about saying yes—until you show them why it’s safe." twist in the end 😅 Ever had that "aha" moment when a brilliant business idea strikes you out of the blue? It's like a spark igniting in your mind, isn't it? But let's face it, the road from that lightbulb moment to actually building a successful business is filled with twists, turns, and a whole lot of hard work. That's when the real work began. Here's what I learned about nurturing a business concept: 1. Obsess Over the Problem, Not Just the Solution 2. Validate, Validate, Validate 3. Craft Your Blueprint 4. Build Your Dream Team 5. Take the Leap 6. Embrace Failure you must be thinking yes above all are THE key steps But here's the not-so-secret secret: without rock-solid communication, that spark can fizzle faster than a wet firecracker. Why? Because your business concept, no matter how innovative, is just that – a concept. It thrives or dies on how effectively you communicate. if you can't clearly explain your vision, address concerns, and inspire action, all the planning and strategizing goes up in smoke. if the decision makers don't listen to your vision, concerns, and inspire your actions, all the planning and strategizing goes up in smoke. That's why communication is the king (or queen) for the business concept. It's the bridge between your brilliant idea and the reality of making it happen. What are your communication hacks for getting buy-in on your ideas? Share in the comments! #entrepreneurlife #businessideas #communicationiskey
