PDM (Programmatic Direct Mail) is to direct mail as CTV is to linear TV. Direct mail and linear TV are large, powerful, legacy channels, but they are no longer high-growth. Linear TV didn’t just shift to CTV, though. CTV has become a net new channel that’s addressable and measurable. As a result, marketers are allocating more budget to CTV from other channels. Direct mail is the same. $40B+ is spent on direct mail each year. But the channel is being reinvented using programmatic tactics such as 1:1 audience targeting, online and offline data, ML-driven models, and closed-loop measurement. Just like how CTV isn’t just a better linear TV, PDM is not simply a better direct mail. It combines the best of digital and direct mail to create a new, modern channel designed to drive outcomes.
