The NHS Nursing Shortage: A Critical Issue Amid Reforms Today, Keir Starmer outlined his vision for NHS reform, focusing on investment in digital technologies, more care in the community, and a bigger emphasis on prevention. These are positive steps toward a more modern and efficient healthcare system. But with approx 40,000 nurse vacancies in NHS England alone, one has to ask: Where will the staff come from to support these reforms? Building a sustainable NHS requires more than technology and strategy; it demands investment in people. The existing nursing shortage is already stretching the system to its limits, affecting patient care and staff morale. Without a clear plan to address this critical gap—whether through better recruitment, retention strategies, or international hires—these reforms will face an uphill battle. The success of any healthcare system starts with its workforce. It's time we focused on ensuring we have the people to drive these reforms forward. #NHS #NursingShortage #HealthcareReform #StaffingCrisis #NHSReform #Nursing

NHS -so the Junior Doctors dispute maybe resolved but what's happening in the NHS ?Use of agencies, outsourcing healthcare to clear waiting lists ,overworked staff ,low moral etc However there is a lot of positives namely the university hospitals ,the advanced research and a lot of dedicated medical personnel who deserve recognition https://lnkd.in/efFHGQQS The FTSE 250-listed company, which runs 39 hospitals and more than 50 clinics, said its work with the NHS increased in the first half of the year, as the health service outsourced more procedures to the private sector and patients exercised the right to choose where they receive treatment. “Spire stands ready to work with the new government to help address NHS waiting lists,” said Justin Ash, the Spire chief executive. “Waiting lists would be a lot longer if we weren’t doing what we do.” The NHS waiting list was 7.62m cases in June, with 3.13 million of these patients waiting more than 18 weeks. The median waiting time for treatment was 14.3 weeks, almost double the pre-pandemic wait of 7.5 weeks in June 2019.https://https://lnkd.in/eqgRZCrT Dec2023 Extract-“The NHS has spent more than £384m on agency staff in north west England over three years, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has revealed. The figures followed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the RCN on nursing staff spend from 2020 to 2022. It said the NHS has "squandered" money on agencies "to plug chronic staff shortages" but it was "false economy". They said cash could pay for nearly 4,000 full time staff instead. NHS England has yet to comment”. https://lnkd.in/eDiFbMh3 Junior doctors bring dispute to end by voting to accept Streeting’s pay offer Almost two-thirds vote in favour of average salary increase of 22.3% over two years after 18 months of strikes The Guardian -today Dr Chris Day interviewed on NHS Whistleblowing and cover up culture in the NHS by Nick Abbot on LBC https://lnkd.in/eDQGPB_r

The Commission for Nurse Reimbursement continues to move forward and increase awareness of the need for modernization of nurse reimbursement. It’s time everyone understand why nurses don’t stay at the bedside. We don’t have a nursing shortage, we have a shortage of nurses who want to work in a cost minimization environment. It’s time for change! #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin #advocacy #nursing
We've been busy this week! A few of our Commissioners met with Nick Wooldridge, a staffer for Congressman Blake Moore, and Miriam Harmer, a staffer for Senator Mitt Romney, about the lack of a reimbursement structure for nursing services. Nurses are an integral part of patient care, yet their value is bundled into the overall room rate in hospitals. This lack of recognition and direct reimbursement mechanism has far-reaching negative impacts on the nursing workforce, contributing to shortages and burnout and ultimately affecting patient outcomes. We are committed to advocating for fair and transparent reimbursement models that accurately reflect the contributions and value of nursing services across all healthcare delivery systems. Our goal is to strengthen the nursing workforce and ensure the highest quality care for patients. 📣 A big shoutout to Nursa and their dedicated team, founder Curtis Anderson and Head of Clinical Jane Jeppson, for setting up these meetings and their unwavering support for the mission of the Commission! #NurseReimbursement #NursingWorkforce #PatientCare #LegislativeAdvocacy #nursingonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL Sharon Pearce

The only losers in this will be consumers. Nursing homes in local communities will have to close. And high quality 5 star facilities will close. Some of my highest quality 5 star facilities are the ones that are furthest from this mandate. It’s not the 3.48 in total. We meet that. It’s the mandate of WHAT we must staff. There are no RNs to staff in the middle of the night. I’d much rather staff the RNs we can find during the day to assess the residents while they are awake. And good LPNs at night who can call an RN if needed. Who deemed an LPN worthless?! Oh right, a bunch of people who don’t actually work with them! AND the federal government is not allowing us to fast track nurses and CNAs from other countries here. Licensed professionals! They want a staffing mandate and then BLOCK the solution!!! Our organization has over 250 nurses and aides waiting to enter this country to work! And who is willing to house their entire family, set them up and support them, we are, their co-workers! It’s a built in support system. We are not the problem. The government is. Quality is not regulation.
New analysis finds 81% of nursing homes do not meet the updated requirements in the final #CMS staffing mandate, further amplifying the chorus of concerns raised by providers. #longtermcare #staffing #skillednursing https://lnkd.in/gQzGhFEg

My friend, who manages a hospital in Texas, shared a surprising insight. "We've been getting a lot of resignations," he said. And the majority of it was from nursing staff. Why? Overwhelming workload was among the top reasons. Well, it got me thinking about all the challenges and hardships nurses and care staff face. All because of increasing admin burdens. However, there's hope with RPM. Yes, you got it right. RPM not only boosts patient outcomes, it reduces the workload of in-hospital staff. Here's how- ➡️ Monitor patients more efficiently ➡️ Fewer hospitalizations and emergency visits ➡️ Prompt support With the right implementation of RPM tools, hospitals can significantly boost clinical efficiency. And reduce the burden nurses experience. It helps in better patient care and supporting nurses in their roles. I'm curious about your thoughts on this! Do share in the comments. Our Australian healthcare system – what can you do to improve it? Tell your local member of parliament that where registered nurses are educated, deemed competent to perform a procedure and understand when to refer on for medical assessment, they should be provided with access to the Medical Benefits Scheme (Medicare). This will mean you will be entitled to a rebate when you access our service. Lisa Hellwege, Clinical Director of Earworx and Registered Nurse, talks to Triple M about the serious challenges the Australian healthcare system faces. Lisa provides actionable solutions for change; allow registered nurses to help by providing funding support to their patients. Lisa and the Earworx team run an ear care service and brand you have come to love and trust. But did you know that whilst this nurse-led model of care alleviates pressure from other areas of the healthcare system and prevents you from a lengthy wait with your already heavily burdened GP clinic or emergency department, Medicare currently does not provide you with support via funding. This impacts on access to needed healthcare services for all Australians, including both you and our worthy veterans. What can you do to help? #LobbyYourLocalMember. Access to funding body support will mean more Australians such as yourself will have timely access to the equitable care you need.
