Unionized employees should work to reduce overheads to save the existing plants and SOME employees positions. Not all will be retained. https://lnkd.in/e72syMXa #manufacturingusa #bidenfailures

Stellantis decision to lay off workers at its Toledo plant highlights the ongoing challenges facing the North American automotive industry. As companies seek to reduce costs and adapt to changing market conditions, labor unions are pushing back. The United Auto Workers union's threat of nationwide strikes underscores the potential for increased labor unrest in the sector. Stellantis insists that these layoffs are crucial to ensure its long-term competitiveness. Additionally, the company is cutting jobs in other countries that support its U.S. operations, reflecting a broader trend of global cost-cutting measures in the automotive industry.

🚨 Critical Vote Alert for UAW Local 2209 at GM’s Fort Wayne Plant On Wednesday, UAW Local 2209 members will cast a pivotal vote on a potential strike at GM’s Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana, a key site for producing Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks. The vote underscores rising tensions over temporary worker layoffs and job security concerns, following GM’s recent decision to cut approximately 250 temporary roles. Union leaders have advocated for fair treatment and full-time transitions for these workers, with UAW Local 2209 President Rich LeTourneau emphasizing the need to protect jobs and negotiate effectively with GM. While a “yes” vote empowers negotiation, it doesn’t guarantee a strike. Stay tuned for updates on this impactful moment for auto labor and manufacturing in Indiana. #AutoIndustry #LaborRights #UAW

Universal Logistics is reducing its workforce by 92 employees at its Detroit facility, citing market challenges. This decision comes as the company eliminates an entire shift at one of its auto parts logistics sites, affecting both drivers and warehouse staff. Unfortunately, these layoffs are part of a broader trend in the logistics industry, where various companies are responding to declining freight volumes and customer losses across the U.S. Despite this difficult news, Universal Logistics is optimistic about a potential recovery later in 2024. The company believes there may be an uptick in freight volumes in the latter half of the year, as market conditions stabilize Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gryFWXGv

Boeing starting massive layoffs starting with Boeing laying-off over 2,200 workers in Washington state and Oregon state alone. How soon before Boeing layoffs more workers in these two states and layoffs lots of workers in other states plus other countries too? Well seems in US that Boeing latest round of layoffs is over 2,500 so 2500-2200 = atleast 300 layoffs in other US states https://lnkd.in/evZB7S4W The striking Boeing workers should have been less greedy in wanting a mega big pay raise and demanded a "No Layoffs" clause plus #pension guarantees instead. As there is little point getting a massive pay raise only to be layed-off! But they did Not and now they are bound by the contract they agreed to! This is another reason you should never work a salary position at a union company. Are these layoffs the result of the union negotiations? Of course they are, this was always going to happen. Are the layoffs union first? Nope, it's the salary positions that are facing the brunt of this for a negotiation that they had nothing to do with. To be fair, I have no doubts that this is only the first round, and that multiple more rounds are coming and that those layoffs will affect the union members. On the bright side, this is an excellent opportunity for Boeing to clear the roles of it's DEI hires and promotions. https://lnkd.in/eiTeDm9E

It’s telling how little regard Stellantis has for the UAW that it relied on robocalls to notify 341 factory workers they were being fired. Despite the glowing media coverage of UAW president Shawn Fain, there is growing unrest and opposition to his leadership, as the rank-and-file increasingly understand the implications of his contract settlements with the Detroit 3 automakers. Ford CEO Jim Farley recently said that the UAW’s decision to first target his most profitable plant for a strike had caused it to reevaluate where it builds future factories, a not-so-subtle threat that Ford might move more of its operations to Mexico, where it already builds three vehicles and operates the biggest engineering complex in Latin America. Ford claims to employ more UAW workers than Stellantis and GM, which is the biggest automaker in Mexico. Since the new UAW contract was ratified, some 1,800 temporary employees were fired because the Detroit 3 automakers didn’t want to convert them to full time status and be required to pay higher wages and benefits. “The company is looking at it as, ‘OK, this is a way to get back some of that money Shawn Fain took from us,’” Brian Keller, who was recently laid off from Stellantis, told WDIV. Keller was one of the fired workers protesting in front of UAW’s Solidary House headquarters last Saturday. The protesters said they are mad at the auto companies, but furious with union leadership. “Shawn Fain lied to us, and as a result, Stellantis fired us,” Wilmoth said. “We were all paying union dues and we are not receiving any form of representation from our union apparatus.” The UAW had no comment in response to the protest, perhaps because Fain is too busy appearing with Rep. Rashida Tlaib at protests calling for a cease fire in Gaza. The UAW endorsed President Biden because of his support of the union. https://lnkd.in/grkhHv-X https://lnkd.in/gT_4YUJF #uaw #stentallitis #ford
