Streaming audio and video - new tech allowing for greater efficiency in delivery, more options for consumers. At first blush this sounds environmentally friendly; perhaps because the average person has no idea how all these tracks and movies are stored and made available (frankly, including myself). Upon further inspection, sadly , the net environmental impact of streaming is likely worse than even vinyl. https://lnkd.in/eXmbDPju

YouTube could soon become the biggest platform for 3D audio - bigger than Apple Music, Amazon and Tidal combined! Although YouTube is not currently perceived as the place to go for audio, there is already more spatial sound potential under the hood than many suspect: Since 2016, the platform has supported Ambisonics for 360-degree videos and offers a variety of binaural content that garners millions of views, such as binaural recordings, ASMR and 8D audio. In the future, however, YouTube could offer much more, especially with the introduction of IAMF - an uprising format (Immersive Audio Models and Formats) that should allow any content creator to easily produce 3D audio content. I think this could be the Dolby Atmos killer for the masses. YouTube may be on the brink of establishing itself as a leading force in 3D audio, with a potential offering that is more comprehensive than most streaming services combined. Provided, of course, that its content creators also jump on the bandwagon - but there is a lot of production volume behind the platform. My recommendation: keep an eye on it, the name IAMF will certainly be revised and then have a completely different effect as soon as it is made accessible. Have you already experienced 3D audio content on YouTube or could you imagine more? #YouTube #ImmersiveAudio #3DAudio #SpatialAudio

The MLC lists the rates of streaming and their financial logic from Spotify, Amazon, SoundCloud, and Youtube why doesn’t BMI or ASCAP provide this information? Perhaps the MLC should combine with ASCAP and BMI and create a new system that turns ISWC compositions into stock purchasing devices. The lack of transparency has led to the black box problem and now a new system is needed. https://lnkd.in/ezYnR-cP

Linear TV is not dead, but it does need to evolve. iTunes, once crucial for the music industry, now contributes just 3% of its revenue, with subscription streaming dominating. The market now favors highly curated playlists and channels accessible with a simple command like "Alexa, play Delta Blues," facilitating discovery of new songs and forgotten classics with ease. While SVOD is great for focused viewing, there is still a need for background TV. Imagine saying, "Alexa, play 80s sitcoms," and seamlessly skipping shows or episodes you're not a fan of with a simple "Alexa, skip," creating a truly personalized viewing experience. The video industry's shift to web-centric technologies should encompass more than just SVOD, AVOD, and FAST. There's significant potential for a subscription streaming service that caters directly to customer preferences. This can be achieved through a unified video tech stack built on Manifest Manipulation and a highly adaptable Manifest-based Playout solution. "A superior experience, not a better download service, displaced iTunes."

"The fundamental message was that streaming needs to shift from a single consumer value proposition of ‘all the music, any time, anywhere’, and simple digital monetisation strategies focused on subscriber growth (‘get people to pay, and then get more people to pay’), to a more complex model that maximises customer value and focuses on both subscriber and ARPU growth." #MusicDistribution #Streaming #MusicBusiness #MusicIndustry #Beatroot
