Celebrating the Success of SGS Alumni: Joshua Hale's Inspiring Journey! Joshua Hale, 26, embarked on his career journey through the Level 5 Operations Management Apprenticeship at SGS College. Reflecting on his experience, he describes the course as invaluable, crediting the charismatic tutor and well-balanced mix of classroom learning, independent study, and work experience for setting him up for success. He commented: "The opportunity to learn alongside a diverse group of professionals highlighted that college isn’t just for younger students. I felt reassured that I wasn’t being left behind academically, even as friends pursued university degrees. The course showed me that learning and growth aren’t bound by age. It was the perfect environment to build confidence and gain real experience." Since completing his apprenticeship, Joshua was promoted within his company and stayed with his employer until 2023, when he achieved a significant milestone by securing funding for a Management Buy-Out (MBO). Now, as Owner and Managing Director of Dock Solutions, he leads a team of 42, working with some of the largest organisations worldwide. Joshua firmly believes his qualification was instrumental in his career advancement, initially giving him a solid foundation in business that he applied daily, contributing to his promotion. It also played a crucial role in securing MBO funding, representing his commitment and core skills and helping others believe in his potential to lead. Well done, Joshua! ❓On the run up to results day, have you thought 'What am I going to do after GCSEs?' 🎒❓ It's a big question and no doubt one that you'll have been asked by your teachers, friends and family. It's almost as big as, 'Where do you see yourself in five years?' 🤔 It's okay if you don't know where you want to be a few years down the line. In fact, you're not on your own. When I was 18 I didn't really know what I wanted to do and I got my first job with M&B as a part of a Bar team, I then worked my way up to Team Leader, District Trainer, Assistant Manager, General Manager and Accredited General Manager and now I am a Recruitment Partner working towards my RBM development. I LOVE what I do and have a real passion for hospitality. This year I had to take some time away from work because I was ill and that's ok! Sometimes life doesn't always take you the way you plan but with a fantastic support system and the drive to succeed and work hard you will get there. The word "Apprenticeship" can be a tricky one. Many people automatically think it is a scheme for school or college leavers only, but this is not the case... Apprenticeships are available to every working person entering into a new area of expertise, regardless of age, making training and development accessible to everyone. Some of our biggest success stories are existing employees who have been promoted into a leadership role but have never had any formal leadership training and have undertaken their Team Leading L3 Apprenticeship. And yes, government funding is available to every eligible individual at any age. Our courses range from £3,500 to £14,000 per course per person, which will be 95-100% funded by the government, helping to reduce employers' learning and development spend.
