LET'S EAT GRANDMA ‘A proper editor would be horrified’: Why did a pediatric journal publish articles on the elderly? In June, a scientist researching sarcopenia came across a relevant paper about treatment for elderly patients with complications from the disease as well as type 2 diabetes. The paper was “very bad. It looked like someone just copied two or three times the same text.” The scientist, who asked to remain anonymous, became even more concerned when he realized the paper, which had the word “elderly” in its title, had been published in a pediatric journal. “I started reading other issues of the same journal and noticed that this is a widespread problem: Chinese papers about older adults being published in pediatric journals!” he said. The volume of the journal with the sarcopenia paper, Minerva Pediatrics, included 29 articles, of which at least eight letters to the editor described experiments and clinical trials with adult participants. Three other journals from the publisher, Minerva Medica, were denied impact factors by Clarivate this year due to suspicion of citation manipulation. #article #journal #author #manipulation #MinervaPediatrics #Clarivate #texhnologycenter #технологічнийцентр #recommendation #science #scopus #article #research #video #interesting #authors #grants #publisher #impactfactor #sciencenews #publication #openaccess #journal #archive #CiteScore #ukraine #submit #quality #university #learning #universities #students #education #help #ClubScience #ScientificRouteOÜ #ClubScienceComfort #ClubScienceYourAgent https://lnkd.in/dqipNYmw

☑️ *READ ASTRACT BELOW:* Keywords: Caregiver-infant interaction; Low-birth-weight infant; Pediatric nursing; Prediction model; Random Forest. Part 1: Background: Quality caregiver-infant interaction is crucial for infant growth, health, and development. Traditional methods for evaluating the quality of caregiver-infant interaction have predominantly relied on rating scales or observational techniques. However, rating scales are prone to inaccuracies, while observational techniques are resource-intensive. The utilization of easily collected medical records in conjunction with machine learning techniques offers a promising and viable strategy for accurate and efficient assessment of caregiver-infant interaction quality. Methods: This study was conducted at a follow-up outpatient clinic at two tertiary maternal and infant health centers located in Shanghai, China. 68 caregivers and their 3-15-month-old infants were videotaped for 3-5 min during playing interactions in non-threatening environment. Two trained experts utilized the Infant CARE-Index (ICI) procedure to assess whether the caregivers were sensitive or not in a dyadic context. This served as the gold standard. Predictors were collected through Health Information Systems (HIS) and questionnaires, which included accessible features such as demographic information, parental coping ability, infant neuropsychological development, maternal depression, parent-infant interaction, and infant temperament. Four classification models with fivefold cross-validation and grid search hyperparameter tuning techniques were employed to yield prediction metrics. Interpretable analyses were conducted to explain the results.(...) Wang Q, BMC Pediatr. 2024 Oct 10;24(1):648. doi: 10.1186/s12887-024-05080-8. We're thrilled to share that an article authored by our esteemed colleagues has been published in The Lancet, a leading medical journal renowned for its impactful research. The article titled "The Importance of Global Bioethics to Pediatric Medical and Surgical Care", examines the impact that the ‘dominant narrative’ in medical ethics has had on global #pediatriccare, particularly in the context of resource allocation. Despite global agreements and clear reasons to prioritize children, pediatric #healthcare falls short of reducing morbidity and mortality targets. Our colleagues argue that the philosophical framework guiding resource allocation may contribute to this shortfall. By exploring alternative inclusion perspectives, the article challenges the prevailing narrative in #medicalethics, offering nuanced insights to better serve vulnerable pediatric populations. Through the lens of global bioethics, the manuscript advocates for a more inclusive approach to addressing ethical dilemmas in pediatric care, aiming to improve #healthcare outcomes for children worldwide. Congratulations to our dedicated colleagues, Drs. Karel-Bart Celie, M.D., Ruben Ayala and Ulrick Sidney Kanmounye, as well as Drs. Kokila Lakhoo and Tahmina Banu from the GLOBAL INITIATIVE FOR CHILDREN'S SURGERY - GICS. Your contributions are invaluable to advancing global health! https://lnkd.in/e_TfASqd

📰 Trials Methodology Funding Success: University of Limerick UL Research Secures Funding to Develop #CoreOutcomeSet for Comprehensive #Geriatric Assessment. Rose Galvin Prof Galvin’s study will encompass a scoping review of existing trials to determine commonly reported outcomes and instruments. A rapid #evidencesynthesis to identify outcomes important to older adults themselves. Participatory research methods to gather input from older adults, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders. A consensus-building process using an e-Delphi study and meetings with key stakeholders to finalize the core outcomes. Group discussions to identify recommended outcome measures. By involving older adults not just as participants but as co-researchers, the project ensures that the outcomes developed reflect their real-life experiences and priorities. #TrialsMethodology https://lnkd.in/e3x2fRXm

Neue, hoch spannende Studie zum Thema Legasthenie: Ursachenermittlung durch eine Differenzialdiagnose. Reinhard Werth Revealing the Causes of Dyslexia through a Differential Diagnosis, a Short-Term Effective Treatment and an Appropriate Conceptual Framework. Diagnostics. 2024; 14(17):1965. Institute for Social Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Haydnstr. 5, D-80336 Munich, Germany † The author is retired professor of Medical Psychology at the Institute of Social Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University of Munich, Germany. - Diagnostics 2024, 14(17), 1965 Abstract Various different impairments and their interactions can cause reading problems referred to as “dyslexia”. Since reading requires the interaction of many abilities, the impairment of each of these abilities can result in dyslexia. Therefore, the diagnosis must differentiate various kinds of dyslexia. The diagnosis of a certain kind of dyslexia cannot be delimited to the investigation and description of symptoms but must also include the investigation of the causes of each kind of dyslexia. For this purpose, a scientifically unequivocal concept of causation and appropriate methods are needed to distinguish them from co-existing impairments that have no causal influence on reading performance. The results of applying these methods cannot be adequately accounted for by a non-scientific, intuitive understanding of necessary and sufficient conditions and causation. The methods suitable for revealing the causes of dyslexia are described in detail, and the results of applying these methods in experiments, in which 356 children with developmental dyslexia participated, are reviewed. Since the concepts of “necessary” and “sufficient” conditions and “causation” proposed in the philosophy of science are not suitable for describing causes of dyslexia and their interaction, they are replaced by a more detailed, experimentally based conceptual framework that provides an accurate description of the conditions required for correct reading and the causes of dyslexia. Keywords: dyslexia; homonymous hemianopia; reading impairment; reading therapy; causes; conditions Die Studie kann unter den folgenden Link heruter geladen werden.
