How can you know that summer is really there in Amsterdam? When cyclists get wet on the movable bridges. That are bridges that open when ships need to pass. To prevent too much expansion, the bridges need to be cooled with water so that they can keep on getting opened and closed. (most) cyclists like some cooling as well! Amsterdam is worldwide the city with the most bridges, some 1900. Here an overview of all bridges in Amsterdam: https://lnkd.in/eYiAjwjC fotos by ML&JK

So what the Hull's happening with Hull's new cruise terminal? 🤔 In case you don't know, Hull has ambitious plans to build a new cruise terminal as part of a wider effort to regenerate the Western Docklands area! In November last year, the Hull City Council approved a master plan that includes this state-of-the-art terminal at the Albert and William Wright Dock. (Show concept images) The project is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and significantly enhance Hull's economy by attracting more visitors and cruise ships to our vibrant city. The terminal aims to make Hull a premier destination for cruise lines, with its convenient location providing easy access to the city centre and local attractions like The Deep. However, the plan has not been without its challenges. Some residents have raised concerns about potential traffic issues and the impact on nearby residential areas, and the plan was rethought because of this previously. Despite these concerns, the cruise terminal project could be fantastic for our city! It could bring in substantial investment, support local businesses, and showcase Hull’s rich cultural heritage to a global audience. While securing external funding remains a hurdle, the project reflects a bold vision for Hull’s future, aligned with ongoing regeneration efforts. We think the cruise terminal would be great for Hull! Let us know what you think, and give us a follow for more videos like this! #hull #cruiseterminal #regeneration

Posts like this are what the Public Spaces Expo are all about...!! Showing the difference that Sustainability, Biodiversity and the move to carbon net zero can make to Public Spaces.
A different use of public space was possible — and it still is! A "beautiful" example is Cologne's Barbarossaplatz. Do you have other examples? Let's redefine the street. Utopia is here and now! #change #publicspace #streets #transportation #turnaround #verkehrswende #cologne #köln

The amount of time people spend in their cars in the US is insane. I traveled this summer to Porto, Portugal and experienced a different way of living. Take for example, the Dom Luis bridge below. Water ferries run below the bridge. One level above, busses, cyclists and taxis share the road with pedestrians. Above that, just above the arch, there's a rail line for trains. At the highest level, there's an electric subway and more sidewalks for walkers. That's like 7+ ways to get from one side to the other! It won't happen overnight, but I'm trying my best to be part of the solution and not the problem by building and designing connected, walkable projects. #walkability #urbandesign #multimodal

Ready for a tale about a lesser-known icon? The AEC Routemaster bus. A symbol of London. The Routemaster is a tourist attraction in its own right. Yet, do you know about its iconic legacy? The Routemaster was created to be a more efficient bus. It was made to ferry more passengers faster, using less fuel. Unlike other buses, you could board the Routemaster from the back and front. It had a platform for the conductor to collect fares. This allowed the bus to fill up quickly and saved time. The Routemaster soon became part of London's cultural landscape. It's remembered for being the bus of choice for The Beatles, and even played a part in the 2012 Olympics. The Routemaster is a testament to how design with an authentic vision can become a cultural icon. What's the lesser-known icon of your industry? #vision #business #legacy

How will REGENT’s full-scale seaglider prototype reshape regional coastal travel? REGENT Craft has entered the hardware and systems integration phase for its full-scale Viceroy seaglider prototype, marking significant progress toward realizing seaglider travel. Set for sea trials later this year, the Viceroy will be the world’s first passenger-carrying seaglider, validated by extensive on-water testing. CEO Billy Thalheimer expressed excitement about witnessing the prototype in action, highlighting the company's rapid pace in electric mobility. After conceptualizing the seaglider in 2020, REGENT conducted hundreds of hours of tests on a quarter-scale model. Now, with support from digital twin technology, REGENT’s full-scale prototype is being prepared for tests across floating, foiling, and flying modes. CTO Michael Klinker noted the engineering team’s expertise as pivotal in bringing the seaglider prototype to life. With over 600 orders valued at $9 billion, and approval from the U.S. Coast Guard for testing, REGENT is poised to meet growing global demand for sustainable coastal travel. What do you think will be the most significant impact of seagliders on regional transportation?
