Don't hire for implementation before you hire for strategy. 🤯🤯🤯 "But we can't afford a high-level strategist — we can only afford a do-er." Truth be told — you can't afford NOT to get this done in the right order. Strategy first. Always. Then — implement. (And yes — I *totally* recognize that some people can flex both muscles — strategy AND implementation. I couldn't agree more with Diana Carter. If you hire just for implementation, you're going to be constantly behind the 8 ball when it comes to moving your team forward. You need partners that understand the strategy, even before you can afford to hire for it full time. This is where a fractional strategy officer can be an amazing addition to your team - at the cost of an implementation team member. Startups, don't go it alone based on budget. Build your bench strategically as well as functionally.
