Here’s a glimpse into my story: My belief in the power of impact was ignited in my first job out of college at the largest grocery co-op in the U.S. There, I spearheaded a tech rollout + training of hundreds of store personnel and management that dramatically improved the financial health and productivity of our 360+ member stores. That experience set my career ablaze. Riding that wave of momentum, I launched a side hustle that blossomed into a national brand in the education space. For 14 transformative years, I led a passionate team of educators, empowering students, inspiring teachers, and bringing joy to parents. Together, we boosted confidence and academic performance, helping thousands of kids secure spots in their dream schools. We became a trusted name in tutoring and college advising, recognized locally and nationally, including a feature in Entrepreneur magazine and contributions on NBC. In 2024, I proudly negotiated the acquisition of my company, a significant milestone. As I close this chapter, I find myself at a crossroads, eager for my next challenge. I’m ready to leverage my skills in marketing, finance, and, most importantly, people management in a new venture. Since the sale, I’ve consulted with education-focused businesses, optimizing operations and driving growth, all while mentoring students and new graduates as they navigate their paths. My journey has not been linear, but it has armed me with a valuable skill set that I’m excited to put to work. Four months after the RIF, I’m still unemployed. Everyone else who was let go from my company has landed. The market for tech marketers is saturated and getting the ‘in’ for a first interview has been really hard. I’ve been ghosted. Received ‘we regret to inform you’ emails by countless online applications. Informed 20 minutes before a second interview they’ve already got their candidate. Interviewed by a hiring manager who didn’t review my resume before the meeting. Told I would be a great fit on a third interview and then told two days later I wasn’t. I’m confident in my capabilities, but each of these rejections is hard on the psyche. I’m asking again for help in helping me land. * I’m a senior leader but happy to be someone’s number 2  * I’m passionate about strategy and messaging and product launches and content and events and can also lead demand gen and digital programs * I’ve grown up in logistics & ecommerce, did a stint in cybersecurity, am interested in healthcare, but can absolutely translate my skills to any tech product or solution * I’m a Marketer but am also open to Bus Dev, Comms, and/or Product Management roles. In today's startup world, it's very important to keep a close eye on your burn rate. Knowing how long your money will last and understanding your monthly expenses helps you figure out how much time and resources you've got. And let's be real, things hardly ever go exactly as planned, so it's always a good idea to have a plan B. Being able to adjust your spending quickly is key. When you're just starting out, it's smart to bring in some contractors or freelancers to handle your tech needs. They give you the flexibility you need and often have tons of experience under their belt. Plus, if you need to make a change, it's way easier to find a replacement. Think about hiring contractors or part-time developers to keep things lean and nimble. They'll be the backbone of your product development. 🎉 Say Goodbye to Boring Job Applications! Hello, Chatbot! Yesterday, while applying for a position at StarHub, I encountered an exciting twist in their application process. Instead of the typical form submission, I was greeted by a chatbot named Skye! This refreshing change adds a touch of novelty to what can often be a monotonous process. This innovative approach not only makes the experience more engaging but also showcases StarHub's dedication to using technology to enhance interactions. Kudos to the team for thinking outside the traditional application box! 🌟 While this might not solve all the challenges linked to recruitment and the lengthy processes involved, it certainly freshens things up. My final words as we parted ways: "I loved this job. I loved this company. I loved everything we were building". Unfortunately even amazing dreams come to an end. I empathize with the difficulty of making hard startup decisions and am honoured to leave a lasting impact with clients, partners, industry, and all my former colleagues (good luck to all of you in your own journey). Hello Everyone! Like so many others, I too have been affected by the wave of layoffs that have taken place over the most recent months. I was laid off this past November, and while eager to get back to work, I have been intentional about where I plant myself next. With that said, I am open and looking for new work, opportunities, and support. I've never done a post like this on Linkedin (or made a post at all), but I'm sure this will likely bring an increase in traffic to my profile. I am searching for Account Manager/ Project Manager positions that are in the DMV area or Remote for (but not limited to) Marketing/Creative agencies and companies. I have a wide range of experience where I have served well in several positions across a spectrum from project management to even teaching (a Jane of all trades!). Through it all, I find joy in being a part of "the process". I enjoy being the problem solver who can see the bigger picture, read between the lines, think outside of the box, challenge and accept challenges, all while carrying a project from start to completion. Some of you have had the pleasure of getting to know my amazing sister, Lara Thomas. She recently joined a super firm, Few&Far, focusing on product management. I've worked on product briefs as a recruiter, and hired for people in startups too - it's a very tricky brief. It's hard to find people who are process-driven, but confident with their instincts; technically minded; but hone their go-to-market skills; inspiring, but get into the boring day-to-day details. It's the kind of brief where you need someone who really "gets" people and isn't transactional. Everyone who knows her will agree that Lara is superb with people. She's kind, direct, and takes the time to really understand someone.
