🩹 Empowering Future Pharmacists with Lifesaving Skills 🩺 Saveetha College of Pharmacy recently organized an interactive event under the theme of Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. The role-play, titled "First Aid Fundamentals: Lifesaving Skills for Future Pharmacists", was led by Lecturer B. Pavithra from the Department of Pharmaceutics. 💉 Third-year B batch students took part in various emergency scenarios such as choking, severe bleeding, and heart attacks. They were divided into small groups, each demonstrating critical first-aid responses using first aid kits and mock injuries. 🧰 Through this hands-on experience, our students learned the importance of swift action and practical skills to handle real-life emergencies. 🏥✨ #PharmacyEducation #FirstAidTraining #LifesavingSkills #FuturePharmacists #Healthcare #EmergencyPreparedness #SDG3 #SaveethaPharmacy #Wellbeing

Everyone plays a role in safety — from leaders responsible for safety culture to frontline staff who should know how to speak up about the risks they see — yet few have received the foundational training they need to carry out their roles. A new advisory group convened will shape a statewide approach to safety education that equips all who work in patient care organizations to work together to prevent patient harm. https://buff.ly/3wALp7j

“We just need someone to say - I see you and I hear you.” On World Patient Safety Day, EMF is sharing wise words from Maureen Williams, a patient advocate and member of the EMF Research Committee. Through her expertise and experience, Maureen understands the importance of engaged listening and effective communication by clinicians. “If a patient is in ED then the premise is that they are either sick or injured and they are therefore vulnerable and anxious. If a doctor interrupts and does not communicate effectively, then the patient is unlikely to offer any more, possibly vital information. Bear in mind that within the first hour of being admitted to ED, a patient can see upwards of eight total strangers - the triage nurse, the admitting nurse, several doctors, the pathologist, the radiologist, the ward nurses etc.” Patients sometimes might not have the health literacy to express themselves adequately, leading to vital health information being lost. However, if these patients are truly listened to, they will give valuable clues, leading to benefits like more accurate diagnoses, effective and sustainable care outcomes and increased patient satisfaction. #WorldPatientSafetyDay #EMFResearch #emergencymedicineresearch

Hospital staff in Hull will be taking part in a major incident training exercise this weekend to test their emergency response procedures. On Saturday 18 May, Hull Royal Infirmary will play host to ‘Livex Virgo’ which will see staff such as emergency department doctors, nurses, porters and managers respond to a simulated chemical incident as if it were real. Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, organisations which are classed as ‘Category 1 responders’, including acute hospital trusts, must test their major incident response plans regularly, and carry out a live exercise at least once every three years. We can’t share too much information ahead of the event, as it’s vital that those taking part respond as they would in a real life situation. The exercise will run throughout Saturday morning, during which time patients and visitors to the site may see some unusual activity, such as decontamination processes underway or large groups of people moving around but should not be unduly concerned about this. The exercise will not affect routine appointments so if you are booked into a Saturday morning clinic, please attend as usual, and if you need unplanned care, the Urgent Treatment Centre at Hull Royal Infirmary will be open as normal, as will the Emergency Department in cases where there’s a threat to life or limb. Exercise volunteers will be positioned at key locations across the hospital site to reassure visitors and ensure any patients arriving on site are able to access their appointments or other form of medical care as normal. #majorincident #chemical #attack #training #exercise #liveexercise #livex #virgo #hullhospitals #HRI #emergency #EPRR

World Patient Safety day is celebrated on 17th Sep, theme for this year is Improving diagnosis for patient safety. In the one of the reputed Medical Practice Study, diagnostic error accounted for 17% of preventable errors in hospitalized patients, and a systematic review of autopsy studies covering four decades found that approximately 9% of patients experienced a major diagnostic error that went undetected while the patient was alive. Taken together, these studies imply that thousands of hospitalized patients die every year due to diagnostic errors. https://lnkd.in/dN4XrDWB #worldpatientsafety #patientsafety #diagnosticerrors #medicalerrors #errors #healthcare #hospital #nursing #nurses #doctors #medical #safecare #quality #healthcarequality

There are many opportunities for medication errors to occur, despite good care by healthcare providers. The importance of evaluating why errors occur and identifying flawed systems and processes cannot be underestimated. The scope of medication safety and mitigation strategies is broad, and many individual and system approaches exist to improve safety in this area. Sharing an updated ONQS article that highlights oxytocin medication safety and common errors involving epidural analgesia and IV antibiotics. It also includes: - Institute for Safe Medication Practices Recommendations for Safe Care - Basic nursing medication safety practices - Use of health information technology - Peer cross-checking - ONQS practice questions.
