These "mini-brains" grown in the lab offer unprecedented information processing and learning capabilities that could revolutionize how robots interact with their environments. This article delves into the concept of "wetware"—the integration of biological components with technology. The potential of brain organoids goes beyond robotics, offering superior computational capabilities with minimal energy consumption. A human brain can perform complex calculations using just 20 watts of power, compared to the 21 megawatts required by supercomputers. 🤖 Exciting news from the European project IntelliMan! 🌟 🔍 We delve into the core question of how robots can efficiently learn to manipulate in a purposeful and highly performant manner. From mastering individual manipulation skills to understanding abstract task descriptions and even discovering object functionality through interaction, aiming at revolutionizing robotic capabilities. 🧠 With a focus on persistent learning, IntelliMan leverages AI to perceive its surroundings using a diverse array of sensors, plan and execute tasks, and detect and address failures through interaction with humans and the environment. 🌐 Furthermore, IntelliMan explores user perceptions and factors enhancing human acceptability of AI-powered manipulation systems. But that's not all! The goal is to create robots that can perform tasks in our homes and other complex environments. “We can now train robots instead of programming them. This makes it much easier to find solutions for environments in which rapid changes occur.
