Have been wondering along similar lines as these commentators… 🤦♀️ (*Scholz’s intention to delay the vote of confidence until mid-January means new elections cannot be held before March; whereas having it now would open the door for elections already in January. But then, who needs a government with a majority? Surely a comatose zombie coalition is enough in times such as these, with no urgent problems to take care of…🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️) In seriousness: Despite not expecting much, am once again flabbergasted by Scholz’s cynicism. Tragic that he ever became the German Chancellor.

🔍 Analysis: The local elections on Thursday have national implications. They represent the most significant test of voter opinion before the general election and are critical to Rishi Sunak’s future. Anxious Tory MPs will be analysing the results in their local areas — and nationally — to see what it means for their seats before deciding whether to take the extraordinary step of trying to unseat their fourth leader in less than five years. Labour will be hoping that their 20-point lead in the national polls translates into success at a local level — while both parties will be anxiously looking at how much of a threat Reform may pose in different parts of the country. So which are the most critical races and when will we find out the results?

🌍📢 Germany’s Political Landscape: What’s Next? Following recent developments, Chancellor Olaf Scholz now leads a minority government with the SPD and Greens, holding just 44% of seats in the Bundestag. This shift makes the government heavily reliant on collaboration with other parliamentary groups until new elections are scheduled. Scholz has announced a vote of confidence set for December 16, 2024. Should this vote fail, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier could dissolve the Bundestag, potentially triggering early elections next year. Stay tuned for our next 'Morning Pulse: Political update from Berlin' webinar with the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce & the Bernstein Group to stay updated on the newest developments. We’ll continue monitoring these changes closely and sharing insights on what they could mean for German-New Zealand relations. #Germany #PoliticalUpdate #NewZealand #GermanPolitics Note dates may change

Q&A on #Ampelaus ? - interesting that the DE government broke the alliance the day Trump got - any connection here? - No. However, it was considered to Ampelremain because of Trump, but water under the bridge, obviously ?- Don't you think it would be better though to have elections asap to make sure a strong (or anyway stable) government is in place before January? - Grundgesetz doesn't like snap elections, both options, early or later, will secure constitutional stability. For political stability, however, one might be pro late (SPD) or pro asap (CDU) ? - Is there a constitutional obstacle to this? - No. Now the fight for Scholzremain is: Find a majority, test this in the Bundestag, if no majority -> Ask BPresident for Neuwahl (21 days for dissolution, 60 days for Neuwahl) or organize a new majority for Chancellor Merz before.

Some quick thoughts for the week: 1. Who is the "deep state" favourite in the US?. US media screams all over that the best thing Biden can do is to step down! 2. Did the "deep state" succeed to set their agenda in the French and EU Parliament elections?. What is the inference from French election outcome? 3. What is the future agenda of the "deep state" in India?. Are they happy with the current electoral outcome? Would be good week -end ruminations I suppose... #deepstate
