Did you know a lot of politics is done through Whatsapp? Here are my experiences and tips for Navigating Politics through Whatsapp: Whatsapp's impact on politics is undeniable. It offers a direct line of communication, facilitates relationship-building, and streamlines information sharing. Whether you're aiming to influence key figures or build coalitions, the strategic use of Whatsapp can significantly enhance your advocacy efforts. Remember, in the digital age, mastering the art of personal connection remains a powerful tool in the world of public affairs.Drawing from my experience using Whatsapp in lobbying, here are key insights gathered over the years. My Key Learning Points 1️⃣ Phonenumbers Matter: In the realm of influence, the number of telephone contacts holds substantial weight. Amidst the buzz of Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok, having direct access to civil servants, ministers, political advisors, and MPs through their phone numbers remains unparalleled. Invest time in gathering these numbers and initiate contact with a simple introductory text showcasing your availability for assistance. 2️⃣ This will be super-counter-intuitive but; engage in small talk with individuals in positions of power, not just when you need something. Congratulate them on achievements, birthdays, or successful appearances. Avoid making your initial message a desperate plea; instead here is something shocking; use Whatsapp as a platform for genuine human connection. 3️⃣ Build lobby-coalitions with Whatsapp Groups: Leverage Whatsapp for stakeholder management and coalition building. Information flows seamlessly, potentially replacing traditional emails and meetings. Whatsapp groups can accommodate larger networks, creating a community of like-minded stakeholders. Foster a sense of camaraderie through jokes and memes, avoiding strict rules to encourage organic bonding. 4️⃣ Avoid Information Overload for Politicians: Resist the temptation to inundate politicians with lengthy messages, position papers, or voting advice via Whatsapp. Late-ditch efforts are likely to be ignored, especially without an established relationship. Opt for more personalized and concise communication. 5️⃣ Delegate Texting in Heated Moments: As critical decisions approach, consider having a political heavyweight or a close associate handle texting. The narrowing circle of influence in the heat of battle means politicians may only respond to a select few. All I needed was a little push! I was once scrolling through my phone, during the regular social media thing, watching WhatsApp statuses when I chanced on Mabel Darko 's status which read "I need 20 females who will be available on Saturday between 9am - 3pm for a conference", the normal Gloria Nortei will just scroll past such posts but this time around I said I will be available. She sent me a flyer and the conference was 'A Lady With A Dream' organised by Marina Lamptey. In my thoughts, I said "well this might be the push I need". Fast forward, I learnt a lot from that conference. All the speakers inspired me soo much. Here are a few things I learnt: • To thy self be true. • Take advantage of every opportunity you have to add value to yourself. • Be your own competition. • Be the CEO or rich person you want to get married to • Be strategic about the connections you make. One thing that I am really particular about is 'not delivering as a professional, what I hate as a consumer'. I have had people vocally appreciate such things that I do sub-consciously, and I am going to talk about one of those here. I have ~30 WhatsApp groups muted and in the archive, unopened for weeks. So, I manage my professional WhatsApp very diligently. 👉 I have a leap.club circle of women near me with 60+ interests, which is meant to organise small, intimate coffee meetups between 5-8 women at once. ~ it's active for 3-4 days in a month, ~ we interact usually via polls ~ no recommendations, business promotions, or introductions ~ open for all members to message but only agenda-specific (discuss the meetup only) 👉 I have WhatsApp groups with people in professional network and I ensure that my team members are a part of such groups, only if required. I know it's not possible to do so in a group that has 1000 people and is for knowledge sharing. I know it's not good when personal connections need to be nurtured. But the agenda of none of my groups is about that, so I'm happy to implement such rules, which work quite well. Less disturbance!

Lessons from my First Vote in India 🗳️🇮🇳 1️⃣ Choose candidates based on their track record, not just promises. I was inspired by a local corporator who kept me updated on WhatsApp about her local activities. This transparent communication should be the new norm. 2️⃣ Don't expect to meet your candidate, just like we rarely meet our CEOs in the corporate world. Focus on their actions and impact instead. 3️⃣ Media can be a distraction, driven by TRP. Stay informed but be critical of sensationalism. 4️⃣ Enhance voting statistics by connecting it to a central database like Aadhar. This can streamline the process and align people with their nearest polling booths. Let's make informed choices, demand transparency, and improve our democratic process! While I appreciate the efficiency of using WhatsApp for business communication, I can’t help but feel that this constant stream of business -related messages has overshadowed the personal connection I have had with friends, and acquaintances especially when they start using their personal account to send only business forwards, that raises a critical question: is it a good idea to mix business and personal communication on the same platform? I personally feel using #WhatsApp for both business and personal conversations can create confusion. At times, particularly around festivals, it is overwhelming to receive a barrage of pictures, messages from friends and acquaintances who are running businesses; push their products/ services through their personal number. Over time, this has made me lose interest in the conversations entirely. The personal aspect of our relationship has been lost, leading me to question whether I should continue engaging at all. In my experience, it’s beneficial to separate business and personal communication.
