The Committee to Protect Journalists Press Freedom Awards event is always moving, but this year, with so many threats to something as simple as the truth and people who report it... the evening took on even greater importance. We tend to see the contraction of the media landscape as a business issue around subs and advertisers, or a generational issue around social and podcasts... but that buries the proverbial lede that in many parts of the world (and perhaps soon in the US) the basic act of reporting the truth can put journalists in harms way. Worthy cause and organization, worth all of our support. More at: https://cpj.org/ Huge thanks to Jessica E. Lessin Lindsay Howard Meech and The Information for welcoming me + Steve Tomasco IBM to join them at this important event. (And as usual, my event photography is terrible...)

Today is World Press Freedom Day. In a world teeming with mis- and disinformation, where trust is taken at face value, journalists and media outlets need our support. Us communicators can take initiative on World Press Freedom Day and beyond to cement our media relationships and offer support. As our Founders etched into our Constitution, free and independent press is essential to shed light on the issues that matter, share varying viewpoints and hold the powerful to account. A few things you can do today and beyond: *Send a note of thanks to your media outlets. *Pay for access to news, particularly for nonprofit and local news organizations. *Read and share journalism with networks and communities to help build audiences and spread awareness.
