What does a horse’s bit and automotive training have in common? Bit: (noun) an item of the horse’s tack that helps send signals in conjunction with a rider’s seat and legs. A bit comes in a lot of different variations, but all are designed to create different actions inside the horse’s mouth when engaged. Bits are a great tool, but even a gentle bit can be used harshly by a rider who is inexperienced, using it incorrectly, or fit improperly to the horse. It is only one component and has to be used in conjunction with other tack such as the bridle and reins. Used correctly and humanely, it creates harmony between horse and rider. Similarly, Automotive training can be used poorly or correctly. You can create an environment of harshness and pressure OR one of team work and performance.
