How do actors captivate audiences? 🎭 3 #PublicSpeaking tips from their toolbox: 🧰 Just like actors, #speakers must learn to command the stage and engage their audiences. Here are three ideas to elevate your #speeches from mundane to captivating: 1️⃣ Use a team to help you prepare 🤝: Good actors don’t merely pretend, they embody a character. They are supported by a team of professionals: the playwright, stage director, fellow actors, and technicians. As a speaker, invite others into your process. Ask for advice from a mentor or a friend. Small changes can make a huge difference in #communicating your ideas. 🎯 2️⃣ Practice stage presence 🎬: Acting is highly physical. Actors keep the audience on the edge of their seats via the tension of their bodies. Speakers can learn stage presence as well. It’s more than keeping eye contact. It’s about using the expressiveness of your body, mind, and soul onstage in a manner that compels the audience’s attention. 👀 3️⃣ Play with pace 🎼: Pay attention to how actors use vocal pauses, allowing the #audience to digest what has been said. Vary your speaking pace in a way that conveys the points you are making. Plan your gestures and words, then plan your pauses and stage movements. This will give your presentation a natural flow. 🌊 The way you deliver your speech can be as impactful as the content itself. How are announcer or exciting advertisements voiced by voiceover artists? As a voiceover artist, I lend my voice to all types of projects. Ads, explainers, narration, stories, documentaries and so on. However announcer ads make me work the hardest. A 6 second ad that you see on your television is certainly not recorded in 6 seconds. 6 hours of retakes goes into it. There are generally three things you have to be vary of when you record an ad like that: a) Time. b) Modulation, and c) Pace. If you mess up on any of these things, the ad won't connect to your target audience. So, here is an ad I did for Nestle, the brief was simple, keep it crisp, loud and modulative. John was a commercial copywriter and casting director for major brands for years. He's currently casting actors and voice actors for commercials AND, fortunately for me, he's also taking on a few coaching clients. https://lnkd.in/e3NtuJQJ In this clip, we've been working on an Almay script and I've finally gotten it where it needs to be (for the most part-it can ALWAYS be better). Beauty is a subgenre of Commercial voice over (which my voice generally is a perfect fit for), but your voice alone is never enough to book a job in this highly competitive market. You know, I've worked with several commercial coaches over the years, but the thing about John (which we actually laugh together about but that's so so useful/helpful), is that he goes to the "Micro Dust" level—picking apart every nuance, every feeling, every layer of every word, phrase, and line. Why? Because the feeling, the mood, the nuance, the layer upon layer of the concept and script MUST be conveyed for it to all come together the way the client, creative team, and copywriters intended when they wrote it. My goal is not just to be booking work, but to be in the top 10% of commercial voice actors. I used to think I knew well enough what I was doing. After all, I was booking work with some great clients. Clearly, a dose of humility and a reality check was needed. (It's good to be confident, but that needs to be balanced with humility.)
