Protect Your Glass from Spontaneous Breakage The Role of Heat Soaking - All float glass can contain imperfections, such as nickel sulfide (NiS) inclusions, which may lead to spontaneous breakage in tempered glass. While most NiS inclusions are harmless, some can expand and cause the glass to break without warning. This is why the heat-soaking process is crucial. By heating tempered glass to around 550°F (287°C), we accelerate the expansion of NiS, allowing any flawed glass to break in a controlled environment. This process significantly reduces the risk of field failures. Although no solution is 100% effective, heat soaking adds an extra layer of security and peace of mind.
