I'm energized the connections at the October 8th event hosted by Scholars Strategy Network. Impressive and clear presentations by Alina Schnake-Mahl ScD, MPH, Tamara Rushovich, Thomas Dillessio, Edwin McCulley, MS, Kasny Damas, Victor Pickard, Elaine Zundl, and Johanna Greeson. I would love to hear from others what they took away from the experience, in addition to gratitude for the chance to connect with city council members and their staff. A few initial thoughts after comparing notes with Edwin at the end of the event are below: What seemed to work well? o Key takeaway slides were common and brought needed focus o Big photo slides with evocative image and no text o With slide content, less is more o Articulating an impression audiences might take from a graph (“almost literally off the chart”) o Building anticipation, such as by stating plans to share a discovery o Relatable language with emotional connotation o Being ready to pivot when tech doesn't cooperate What got in the way? o The heterogeneity across presentations might have needed more attention to transitions o Not referencing a specific policy, or matching the ask to the local audience o Animations can be distracting o Complex visuals and abbreviations may not be understood within time constraints

Each week (or for around 48 weeks or so a year), I share a board of things read or watched which were notable or connected to whatever was going thru contemplative spaces. Not at all different than many of the other curated newsletters/websites out there (Marginal Revolution, Kottke, etc). Nevertheless, when some folks come to Avanceé asking “well, how does re-engineering complexity actually work?” Sharing one or more of those weekly shares alongside their contexts offers relatable insights, opening doors to the work to help them advance forward. Though it’s sometimes cross-posted here, but not always (ask me my opinion on noise sometime). Here’s the last few weeks of what has been shared. - Reads for 24 May 24: https://lnkd.in/eSkT6wgB - Reads for 31 May 24: https://lnkd.in/enxs9nWs - Reads for 7 June 24: https://lnkd.in/evKUH__d You can freely use the RSS or ActivityPub/Mastadon/MicroBlog platform of your choice to subscribe to updates as they are published.

42: The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Future Governance At Future State Congress, we've unlocked the true potential of this seemingly random number.
